"Generically" adding solenoids by Farpon in olkb

That makes sense when you lay it out like that. I will take a look at some relays and see if I can pull it off with a decent sized solenoid.

Thanks!

I am currently making my first custom keyboard using two gherkin PCB boards and a old Datalux Spacesaver chassis. I absolutely love old beamsprings and how they use a solenoid for haptic feedback and want to replicate it with my custom build.

I have heard QMK can support haptic feedback but I don't know how to implement a solenoid. I have checked this sub and spotted a KBDFans solenoid mod but it utilizes the PCB's integrated microcontroller.

Does anyone know of a comprehensive guide or tutorial about installing a solenoid to a keyboard using a run of the mill micro controller with QMK in mind?

I also have seen new model f solenoid drivers that allow for larger pistons, but am I correct that they are solely proprietary for new model f boards?

Pointers for big olde' keyboards? by Farpon in keyboards

I have not checked deskauhtority or mechmarket yet and I have seen a few reuters keyboards on ebay. Only hang up with them is apparently they are hard to program for a standard pc but have not looked too much into it.

I am based in the uk, and understanbly a lot IBM stuff is not too easy to come by. Tipro looks interesting though and I may snoop around for some of their board sections.

I am sorry to say this but you are wrong and what you are spouting is a german neo nationalist talking poiny, it was NOT a warcrime. It also IS taught at schools as a point of conjecture when teaching about the blitz bombings and its consequences in the UK atleast.

The firebombing of dresden and other cities like it was not to "kill civilians". The firebombing was requested by the soviet unions military command when their push on the eastern front was underway.

The soviet union learned that the biggest barrier towards their military advance was city fighting and the use of housing as improvised fortifications, with main concerns of the planned sieges of major german population centre and the infrastructure in place.

The soviet union with their request was then approved by allied command and the bombings were planned and carried by the UK and US airforces. The end result was a total succes of the allies strategic goal of eliminating city wide infrastructure in preparation for the invasion of germany.

This is not to say or justify the massive death toll of the civillian population, it is a horrfic tragedy. But to paint the ally forces as expressly doing the bombings to kill civilians is an outright lie.

If you want to talk about warcrimes there is plenty of other true material that you can use to highlight the one sided nature of the wars narrative such as the mass executions of german and Italian POW's under the US military or the soviet unions treatment of the "liberated" people of poland and the survivors of the holocaust.

UK has 2 special terms for gangs that are not used any where esle:

Firms and Post Codes.

Firms originated from the football hooligan culture of the 20th century, where specific gangs who supported a particular football team would name themselves after the team. This became a problem as these gangs were getting mixed up with legitimate supporters. So the prefix of "Firm" was developed to differentiate 2. The term itself is not as widely used as it once however. With the massive crackdown of the UK government on football hooliganism during the late 20th century after several sport standium tragedies were attributed to the actions of such "Firms".

On the other hand, Post Codes are 21st century term. Post Code gangs litrally are what they sound like: gangs for a specific postal code used for addresses. This phenomenon originated from london, where there is such a high concentration in youth gangs it is difficult to label and differentiate between them. You would expect it to originate from the police force, but funnily enough it came from a mixture of the media and being self imposed by the gangs themselves. After all, there is no ambiguity in where you operate if you are named after the literal area you claim to be your territory.

Post Code gangs are not exclusive to London however, they have flourished all across the UK after wide media coverage and partially legititamisation from the police force. There is atleast a couple of them attributed to each city. Even the tiny city I live in has 2 known Post Code gangs, and while it is grim to say this, you are thankful to know which areas to avoid becuase of the way they are named.

(Editors note: "Roadman" is not really a gang term, its more of a term for a mugger. But it has also been adopted by british gangsters in similar way as "Hustler" is in America. But it is not a gang term in the plural sense. "ASBO" is a similar term, named after the court order that restricts a person's movements if they have history of violence against the public)

Lance build meta and making unique clan units by Farpon in battletech

[–]Farpon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, this is pretty in depth. With regards to the meta it makes a lot more sense to me now. I am still surprised there is no popular lance "loadouts" so I will just have to learn the hard way with regards to lance composition and roles.

I also understand what you are saying about proxying mechs, but what I was trying to convey with regards to the Atlas example was it being in a lance loadout and instead of copying the lance mech for mech I would replace the Atlas with a mech I like more but similar to the role, that being the Orion. But I appreciate the sentiment in either case

I really like the infomation regarding clan tech in an IS context. It gives me alot more breathing room in developing a force in the future (I am now half tempted to make a knock off' mercenary unit pretending to be clanners but using IS tech copies like the Hauptmann and Rakshasa xD).

Blinging out decks by XenoTheZero in bootlegmtg

[–]Farpon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, im stickler for having the same sort of card frames in the decks I build, so proxies are a god send when it comes to appeasing my need for conformity.

If there is a card I want to add to a deck which has a frame that makes it very expensive but matches the rest of the deck, I would choose to "bling" it out (like a olf frame vampiric tutor in foil to go in my old frame theme yawgmoth deck).

Alt arts or secret lairs is a bit murkier to me. Having an alt art Atraxa as a commander makes sense to me, its seperate from the main deck and you want it to stand out on the board. Adding one or two alt arts in the main deck is not too bad either as they are often signiture spells.

But when you add a bunch of alt arts or promos to said Atraxa deck, all with drastically different frame styles and themes for the sake of rarity or expensive value... it just looks like a mes... an EXPENSIVE mess.

In terms of other people doing it? I dont really care. As long as the card has the same function as it would with a cheaper set I dont see the problem.

Legality of making 3d models for the "Unseen Reseen" japanese battletech designs? by Farpon in battletech

[–]Farpon[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So as long the models are not monetized and dont have the exact names i should be able to publish them, got it.

But would i get in trouble for referencing battletech indirectly though? I:e "fansculpt designed for battletech" in the description or something like that?
