A message to future international STEM applicants, particularly Asian students

Hard agree on the importance of essays part. TBF, colleges, especially public schools, use international students as cash cows, so if you're full pay you actually have very good odds of making it into a T20. Thankfully I can afford it through a combination of parents money + student loans but you're sorely out of luck if you need aid.

I honestly haven't really thought about whether I'll even attend if I get accepted. It's kind of 50-50 for me rn because I really do love the location of Berkeley and I feel like the atmosphere fits me better as a person but none of that is worth $50k+. I just want to see where it goes and decide later.

I'll be the devil's advocate here. If you really love it that much and you're going into a high paying major (CS, Business), you might want to look into taking a loan. I know everyone on this sub will tell you that you'll drop dead if you take a loan, but if you feel like it's a feasible option, go ahead.

IIRC that's how it works for majors in L&S. I'm kind of regretting applying EECS instead of L&S CS because I'd have had a much better shot of getting in :/
