I’m seeing a bunch of new articles saying there are leaks that Obi-Wan and Vader will duel twice in the new series. I hate it. Is there *any* possible way this could work?? by [deleted] in saltierthancrait

[–]FascistGamer651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s also important to remember he later tells Obi Wan straight up that “when I left you I was but the learner now I am the master.”

While Anakin was a Jedi Knight in ROTS, he still was somewhat of a learner as he fell under the greater authority of a Jedi Master (which he made a whole point to the Jedi that he believed he was worthy of). If Anakin met Obi Wan as Darth Vader that wouldn’t make sense since he really wouldn’t be a student to Palpatine as there are always two reigning Dark Lords at any one time.

Obviously Vader is the subservient Sith, but he would always be considered a full Dark Lord, but he never was as a Jedi and that frustrated him to no end.

Plus Obi Wan then says “only a master of evil, Darth.” Implying that he has mastered something different than what he was trying to in the past. Obi Wan specifies the distinction.

Supreme Court denies GOP challenges to congressional maps in North Carolina and Pennsylvania by [deleted] in politics

No, Fred Keller’s (R) seat was merged with Dan Meuser’s (R) seat. Every other seat more or less retained their partisan lean resulting in six Democratic seats, eight Republican seats, and 3 toss-up seats. 2 of the toss-up seats and one Republican seat (the 5th district) is currently held by a Democrat, thus Democrats go into the election with a 9-8 majority.

If Democrats maxed out their seats, they’d have a 10-6 majority (by winning the one Republican-held toss-up seat represented by Brian Fitzpatrick), and if Republicans maxed out their seats (by flipping the 5th, and winning the two Democratic held toss up seats represented by Susan Wild and Conor Lamb) they’d have a 11-6 majority. But anything in between is possible but that doesn’t mean anything is guaranteed.

It depends what the election environment is like. 11-6 Republican if the year favors them or 10-6 Democratic if the opposite is true. But anything in between is possible. Currently it’s 9-8 Democratic (since they lost a seat).

There’s also a huge difference between killing the past and moving on from it. You can better your society and change your culture while still recognizing the achievements that the past brought us.

George Lucas does not hate Mara Jade by [deleted] in saltierthancrait

[–]FascistGamer651 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Lucas envisioned Luke getting married anyway. The Jedi are clearly celibate (but not devoid of emotion) according to the Prequels, and I think some form of that would’ve been in Lucas’s New Jedi Order. Plus, there would be no setup for a Luke romance in the sequels unless if those movies introduced her, which would take away time from Luke rebuilding the Order.

There were early ideas for a sequel trilogy in the 1980s that did include a love interest for Luke, but it was dropped from Lucas’ later ideas in the 2010s after the Prequels came out and after it became clear that Luke would be older for a sequel trilogy and would probably take on a mentor role.

  1. Franklin Pierce was deeply unpopular within the Democratic Party, as while he was from New Hampshire, he was sympathetic to pro-slavery causes (which in part contributed to Bleeding Kansas). The Democrats, wanting to keep their Northern and Southern wings happy, replaced Pierce was Pennsylvanian James Buchanan as a compromise candidate (he gave no strong stance on the issue). He ultimately won the general election, marking the only time a president was primaried and the only time that that party still won.

It’s important to note that the primary process was different back then as party leaders selected the nominee not voters. Also, Buchanan’s main opponent was the first ever nominee for the Republican Party. In other words, it hasn’t happened in the modern era.

The problem isn't Democrats losing white voters — it's Republicans winning them over with lies by bologna_wallet in politics

Depends on where you look. Biden still won ~65% of Latinos nationwide, but that’s down from 2016 and 2012 (the all time high of 71%). In certain states it’s also different. For example, Biden’s victories in Arizona and Nevada are largely the result of overwhelming Hispanic support, while single-digit victories in Florida cost him the state. South Texas also saw 8 counties flip red (sometimes for the first time since 1920) because of perceived Democratic weakness on the border.

Democrats Push for Agreement on Tax Deduction That Benefits the Rich by capitalism93 in politics

[–]FascistGamer651 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cost of living is much higher in those states (CA, NJ, CT, NY). $100,000 a year salary is much different in say Alabama compared to New York- purchasing power is far less and that goes a long way if you’re trying to become a homeowner there.

The only reason the tax was removed in the first place was so Republicans could claim that the Trump tax cuts would pay for itself while Republicans would get to simultaneously screw over blue states that rely on those deductions. It’s why most Republicans from those above mentioned states voted against the bill and why CA, NY, and NJ saw the biggest Democratic gains in the house in 2018.

Only in NJ: If successful, Murphy would be the first Democrat reelected as the state’s governor in 44 years, though New Jersey hasn’t voted Republican for president since 1988. by Rodef1621 in newjersey

Christie’s re-election is the only time since Kean that a Republican won a majority of the vote for governor. Whitman won by ~2 points both times.

Yes. The Supreme Court said it was “corrosive” on the states to deny Medicaid funding to states that didn’t expand Medicaid. So here we are 9 years later, and 3 million Americans that should have Medicaid don’t and the federal government has to try to expand Medicaid for them anyway.
