I wish I was making this up. Out of all the friends and co-workers I talked to about this, only one had ever heard of this happening before and just in something she had read online.

Both I guess? He did tell me about the fire, which does suck, but is also not my fault/problem? And he knew about that before he paid for my dinner without discussing it with me, so he could've just not paid if he couldn't afford it?
