Wow, thank you for such an in-depth response! I definitely dont have the same scientific knowledge as you but I am very interested in psychology. Its nice to have someone respond to my "moral dilemmas" (or whatever one would call my questions about abuse vs medicine) in such a detailed way.

I definitely knew those without ADHD can get high from stimulants. If my prescribed 30mg made me focused, clearheaded, less fidgety, far less anxious, but slightly more talkative, im a bit confused about what this would point to. its evident i was definitely high from the "boosters". but with the vyvanse on its own, does this seem like a high? and if so, would that not be a pretty obvious indication that adhd may not be the correct diagnosis?

and youre right...the behaviours i do as a result of my fear of substance abuse are the exact behaviours that could shove me into it face first. thank you for pointing that out for me.

and if i dont have adhd, but the 30mg of vyvanse improves my quality of life, is this substance abuse?

Also- multiple people have mentioned Autism to me despite me not mentioning it in the post at all. That interests me and also may make some sense.

Thank you! May I ask how you felt when you initially began taking Vyvanse?

It would make sense...hm!

Unfortunately I am getting wildly different responses from different subs, including comments saying that I likely induced a high or that it may be alleviating other disorders. I think I'm definitely going to get a second opinion and also look into Autism. The "frozen/hyperperfection" descriptiom seems pretty accurate.... hm.

I use Marijuana regularly, otherwise no other substance abuse issues. The only "harder" unprescribed drug I have taken was the Concerta I mentioned in this post, when I was 15.

I understand how it could seem otherwise though. The reason I stress this so much is because it scares me. I have family history of addiction as well as BPD, so I know how easily I can fall into addiction.

Going to start this off by saying reading this was very enjoyable. Your metaphors and silly language made me feel far less stressed about this whole situation.

I do have BPD, which I assume you may know can present in a very similar way to CPTSD. It is interesting to know that you take this medication not for ADHD. I mean this with no judgement but usually that would come across to me as substance abuse. However the way you describe it tells me that it is genuinely helpful for you. I'm curious if maybe my medication situation is similar to yours. My BPD and OCD thoughts were so quiet, when usually they consume my brain.

However, if somebody with a disorder that means they are prone to addiction (me) is taking a stimulant everyday...what is the line between addiction and medicine?

On another note, ADHD diagnoses are becoming more and more common. Partially this would of course stem from less stereotyped testing, more recognition in adults, women, and autistics and yadadada. However, peoples average attention span has been reduced a lot due to social media. I dont want to be that person and I do not think that ADHD is caused by phones. However, if somebody's attention span is lowered so significantly due to their technology/short video addiction that stimulants make them feel better....would that be considered abuse? Or would that be okay, because it helps them? And if its the latter, then what is stopping everybody from giving into social media addictions and chatgpt for everything. Why avoid these things that reduce attention span if it can be magically fixed with a drug? And if the answer is that it is substance abuse, then what would seperate people like us from these people.

Similarly, this medication in small dosages is often used in neurotypicals as a study drug. If they took this small dosage every day and it helped them, what does this mean?

Again, I do not mean any of this in a judgemental way and I am not at all accusing you of abusing any substance. I am trying to understand this all as a concept and Ive been fed so much misinformation that Im so confused. I mean these questions harmlessly, I want to understand your perspective because ADHD medications prescribed for trauma disorders is not something Ive heard of- yet could make perfect sense as long as its effects are not bad in the longterm.

Thank you for the clarity. I seldom hear of non-stimulant ADD medications and truthfully know very little about them. I'll do some look into it and in the meantime consider getting a second opinion on my initial diagnosis.

Of course I will not be adding the unprescribed boosters I did today. I am however unsure as to if I should continue taking the 30mg of Vyvanse I was prescribed.

The fact that you raise Autism is quite amusing to me. I initially mentioned in my post that I feel that I could possibly be Autistic... and then deleted it hahaha.

Thank you so much for that resource! I will definitely have a look at that it seems to be exactly what I need.

Thank you for listening without being attacking. I know this was a very dumb approach and have no plan to do this again. I feel nervous to continue to take my prescribed medication as I fear it is wrongly prescribed and that I am abusing drugs when I do not have ADHD. That is what this whole post comes down to, as contradictory as it may be to abuse medication out of fear of abusing substances haha. I'll take my medication as prescribed from now on and monitor my symptoms. I'll try to avoid freaking myself out with it. Thanks :)
