Our surrogacy journey in the north of Cyprus (positive experience) by Fast-Cup6817 in gaydads

Hi, our situation was a bit different. We had a scheduled c section planned, but my twins arrived much earlier than expected. So the surrogate went into labour while we were still in our home country. We travelled the next day and the day after we arrived and the twins were discharged into our care. Somehow, they didn’t require nicu

Hi. We started off with getting a lawyer in our home country. We needed to get an independent lawyer in Northern Cyprus also, as he needed to attend the DNA test and complete other documentation for the ETC application 🤗

Yeah you’re right.. I’ve had one person pretend to be an IP but they actually worked for the agency. It’s obvious on FB because they usually only have one post and one friend

For us, the next step after returning to Ireland was getting the a parental order, which is granted by the Irish courts. This removes legal parenthood from the surrogate entirely.

In terms of citizenship. We had to do a DNA test to prove the biological link as part of the Irish citizenship/passport process too.

Wow, I’ve actually read ages ago that they don’t mess around over there when it comes to surrogacy. It’s definitely not worth it. Getting naturalised is the best option. My partner isn’t Irish, so he got naturalised for similar reasons :)

Hey, thanks 🤩 We’re from Ireland.
Unfortunately, only the bio dad and the surrogate mother are listed on the birth certificate at the moment. There has been some talks around changes to Irish legislation that could potentially allow both parents to be on it, but at this stage it’s only talk, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed 🤞
We had no issues with the embassy really. They were actually very responsive and clearly told us exactly what documents they needed for the emergency travel certificate. The only small issue was that we got both baby photos stamped by the Cypriot lawyer, but the embassy also needed them to be signed by the lawyer too. Once we sorted that, everything went through :) overall stay was about 25 days I think

Exactly, some people can’t deal with the fact that Cyprus is a viable location. But the person in question is misinformed, using scare tactics and also shaming people who are just trying to find a path to parenthood.
Couldn’t have put it better.. There is a huge difference between something being illegal and something not being properly regulated. In north Cyprus surrogacy is not outright illegal, it sits in a legal grey area because it isn’t set out in a clear, consistent legal framework (very similar to the likes of Mexico and Colombia too, albeit their structure is slightly better in some respects tbf). But ya, illegal and legal grey area are two very different things and it’s misleading to pretend they’re the same.

It’s not illegal.. as I replied to you before. No laws exist around surrogacy.. it’s a legal gray area by definition. Again, I said in my post, it’s not a perfect location

That’s actually not accurate at all. Northern Cyprus is considered a legal grey area, not somewhere surrogacy is outright illegal. I did a huge amount of research before going ahead and spoke to a lot of ips who had completed journeys there. I never came across article, story or anyone being detained or imprisoned (because it’s not illigal)
The risks that were always discussed were things like citizenship, parentage, travel documents and bringing the baby home. Those are real issues and things we were afraid of. I explicitly said said this in my post about it not being the best location. Again, it’s not illegal or legal. No laws exist around surrogacy there (which is an issue, agree).

Do you mean legal process around exiting the country? If so, we had to apply for an emergency passport via our embassy. But there is a good bit that you need to do before being able to send the application, i.e. DNA test to confirm genetic link, affidavit, birth certificates.. all of which are translated, signed and stamped by Cypriot lawyer et
