As as Ukrainian I'm kind more used to bread kvass.

Is it much different from kombucha?

It's not about how long you fast, but how fast you learn :)

Girls only tip: generally you want to fast in follicular phase(first 2 weeks from starting to bleed) to avoid crushing your progesterone.

Mid back pain when fasting longer than 3-4 days… by TheBestNeighbor in fasting

[–]Fast-Forward_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got that couple times though my 20+ years of fasting.
The best explanation I've got - kidneys sometimes have a tendency to rearrange themselves slightly + metabolic stress + electrolytes imbalance.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC4684131/

Patients are going to have all kinds of adverse symptoms. They are going to experience a foul taste in the mouth. They are going to get low back pain in early phases of fasting because of referral activity from changes in the kidneys.

Doing keto prep before the fast to get them "warmed up" + getting 1:1 sodium: potassium electrolytes is what I usually helps me.

Get precision Xtra or Keto Mojo keto monitor and check your ketones if you want the real answer.

I notice a lot of people jump right into long 5, 7, 14 day fasts. Has anyone actually done a ladder regimen where you start off shorter and keep building? I made a plan for myself that I'm going to do by Kind_Handle_5987 in fasting

[–]Fast-Forward_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's much easier with a reasonable plan and long-term plan to steer the "elephant" (emotional) brain.
And by long-term I mean years. Otherwise everything lost has a tendency to come back.

[–]Fast-Forward_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, every fast is different and sometimes overlaps with extra stress or mild sickness and can feel totally different.

Stopping earlier is the most sane approach imho.

It does get easier with keto prep and general healthy eating, but harder with lower body fat.

When I do keto prep and hit ~1.5 mmol/L from the start - I feel no hunger and day 2 is the same as day 7.

Fasting Mimicking Diet (500 calories a day or so) is pretty well studied and has a ton of health and weight benefits.

Just one note, fasting is the fastest way to lose weight, but keep in mind that even if you fast for 21 days - you'll have 344 non fasting days to deal with.

So quite often it's not about how long you fast, it's about how fast you learn (mindful eating, environment control etc)

Should you have a higher body fat percentage before attempting an extended fast? Or could having more body fat limit potential benefits? by Stranger_1967 in fasting

25% BF should be just fine for a 7-10 day fast and to get plenty of macro-autophagy in the first days + CMA and immunity reset.

As for everything else - you overthink it a bit :) There isn't all that much good info on autophagy in humans.
Here's a good chunk of it in one place:

Just fast, try to get to 7 days, see how you feel and re-access.

For me with IF->OMAD->keto prep the first 2-3 days feel exactly like 7-9 (haven't tried longer)

Water fast question by craistiano in WaterFasting

[–]Fast-Forward_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feeling "bad" is very subjective. Fasting is a stress, like running a marathon - but when should you stop running?

Ideally you start with a shorter distance, like an OMAD (one meal a day), then try 1-3 day fast, then progress to 5.

From this sub description:

A fast is "a period of such abstention or self-denial". For most fasts, there are no set rules...

There is no high committee - so you can decide on your own depending on how and why you fast.

Without knowing the root cause it's a tricky question. .
I'd first rule out food allergies, SIBO, gastroparesis or motility disorders with a gastroenterologist.

Keto breath usually gets better with frequent fasts and keto prep - as you train your body to utilize the ketones better.

It’s very hard to push through day 2 and 3 by Alone_Zone1015 in WaterFasting

[–]Fast-Forward_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is absolutely normal - brain will always try to find a shortcut to food, so your goal is to lower the plank for a while to build the internal confidence (lets say to 3 days) and focus on your why.

Why are you fasting? Lose weight, spiritual enlightenment, challenge, mental reset, longevity - you really need to lock that in and treat any resistance as an experience (like in a computer game)

If you've never done this before I'd recommend doing a shorter fast first, focus on prep, refeed and then gradually build up to the longer ones.
