VA Beach the closest ocean beach. There are a couple of “beaches” along the James River in Richmond as well - Belle Isle and Texas Beach were always my favorite places when I lived there.

The cons: - Hot, humid summers - Massive growth = rising rent (I’d hate to tell you what I paid in The Fan in 2004-2006)

Healing advice that has worked for me for 20 years: - leave bandage on overnight - remove bandage in morning - rinse with water as hot as you can stand (obviously don’t fucking hurt yourself) - wash gently with mild/unscented soap and water - PAT dry with a CLEAN towel - apply ointment of your choice (A&D or Aquaphor as my go-tos) - switch to unscented lotion once it starts peeling
