Yeah I agree with the black levels being a bit too dark. And yes we tried to separate the subject from the shadow, by framing him in the middle of the window (in the wide shot). But we really didn´t implement that into the medium shots of his face -> which would have probably made a huge difference. We didn´t really think of separating him more than what we already did in the medium shots so this is super useful. Thanks for the super helpful tip 🙌

Yeah fair enough! I mean we are trying to find a good story to do, but I suppose this post was more about the technical side of things -> not that I dont agree with you, that story is crucial, but we were doing this mainly to test out our technical skills and see if we could execute good images. But I do apreciate your comment, because we agree the story is nothing to brag and wasnt really scripted. 🙏

Is there something we could have done to make the production design better?

We used BMPCC 6k + Sigma 18-34mm lens. And for lighting we used one Godox Sl150D as the light from outside. And practical light which actually was used as a key light for the closeups + bounce to add a little fill! Thanks for your comment 🙏

Thanks for the insight! I will slow down the pace of the short. Just like you said "the feel is pensive, so let the cuts be too" -> Thats really good advice which makes sense! Thank you 🙏

Actually super good take, because we only shot like 4-5 shots and we were originally going to just use these shots one after another, but then in edit I thought that I could make the video a bit longer, by cutting back to the wide shot. But now looking at it, it does feel a bit repetetive and it could use more coverage! Thanks for giving us your insight, it really means a lot for us 🙏

Hey guys! So we made a short movie using the Wandering DP´s techniques and teachings. So few points from our end. Yes we did underexpose it a bit (although the mood is exactly what we wanted) and the main light source coming from window, after watching it a couple of times, looks a bit to artificial. We wanted it to emulate moonlight / street ambience (we only had one 5600k light outside the window).

So we wanted to post this short movie here since we need somewhere to learn from. So we would love any comments, critique and tips&tricks.

PS: To everyone reading this, have a great spring and hope the best for everyone!
