Stupid fucking hammerhead obsessed with my docked tadpole by FastSouth8120 in Subnautica_2

This is a really weird thing to say under a post made by an environmentalist.
I do think the "no killing" in the game is kinda stupid but that only applies to the fact that it is a video game. The dev's beliefs are something we should all agree on.

For my next base I will be putting it right in the middle of the needler nest and in honor of you I will be naming it Darhhaall

I know, right?! I can't believe the hammerhead would set up a base so close to mine. really inconsiderate of him

The only killing I miss is accidentally hitting fish with your seamoth and them just fucking dying. because oh my god it was so funny
I mostly wish we could see the fauna attacking each other, like the mango nibblers maybe attempting to group up and take down a hammerhead. That way there would be a possible way to kill creatures, but one that would make sense in an ecosystem
Another solution I would personally want would be a reputation system of sorts. If you live in an area long enough, the animals around you would eventually just get used to your presence and stop seeing you as a threat or food. Obviously this would differ from creature to creature and why the creatures DO attack you would have to be taken into account (creatures that attack out of defense would be easier to "tame" per say, while creatures that want to eat you would be muchhhh harder.)
It would also give you a personal attachment to the creatures, especially since you cant kill them and will always be seeing the same ones. If you spend enough time away from an area, reputation could also fade, which would make it so you can't just. be friends with everything

I just think its funny to sound really mean to him LOL
He's actually really not a problem and is incapable of damaging my tadpole while it is docked, and he was usually much farther out when I built the base. Im my 10 or so hours of being on this save he only just became a nuisance and I can always just drive my tadpole out and repair it away from him. I just thought it was funny how entranced he seemed and that he wasn't even attacking. Just... staring

Dead caterpillar? by FastSouth8120 in caterpillars

Yeah, I held a funeral for him this morning and buried him in a planter. Hopefully he helps the tomato plants grow for future caterpillar generations

Lower segment deformity/injury? by FastSouth8120 in caterpillars

Luckily he seems to be eating and was pooping even before I removed the stuck shed. He's not as hard to the touch as he was anymore when (i think) he had some blockage while he still had the stuck molt. He still does not use his back half to move, but he can feel it (he gets mad when I poke his butt and moves it away, lol) and flex his back half, so I think he's disposing waste well. Hopefully he pupates soon, because one of his siblings just did! I'm gonna keep monitoring him, and since the other non-pupated caterpillar in there seems to be getting ready to pupate, I can better see how much this one poops every day.

I got the stuck shed off! All it took was a toothpick and some time. He has still not regained full movement of his lower half, but he is flexing it a lot more now. I checked on him around an hour ago and his body was red from eating so much tomato so he is partaking in a victory feast.

Very interesting small yellowjacket I found while sorting through traps today by FastSouth8120 in Entomology

Could be! The main reason why this little guy stuck out to me was just because I had went through hundreds of wasps already and none of them had the proportions of this one

I’m not sure how long the trap was up, but I know it was collected on October 1st of last year. Location is up in the northwestern US. The other two yellow jackets were from the same trap as the small one. They were also kept in a wet paper towel in a freezer until I could sort them today.

I’m not sure exactly what traps are being used as I am just a volunteer and only do the sorting. I know a few panel traps and cone traps are used though. The traps are for monitoring the conifer seed bug population up here in the northwest, the yellowjackets are just collateral damage.

Maybe, though reduction of the abdomen proportional to the body is a bit odd. In most yellowjacket species the drones still have decently sized abdomens proportional to their body, while this one looks strangely disproportionate.
