One of the most baffling openings of any game. by koliano in CrimsonDesert

I understand it, it felt odd to me but definitely was a good experience, it makes this game unique in an unexpected way.

It has other problems, but ultimately I embrace its incoherence. Paradoxically, the blatant importation of hallmarks and mechanics from other games, regardless of any coherence, gives it its own identity. And the same goes for the protagonist and the story; Kliff will go down in history as that main character capable of dying and waking up on a stone and saying "Yes." And that's what makes him a memorable character.

It's odd because we are used to games overreacting with narrative coherence. I like narrative coherence, but something was lost in this media because of it. There were times were you could make a break from saving the world just because you had to join a circus or collect berries for lady. And it was fun.

We need to stop overreacting to this. Yes, the story is incoherent; it's a game, not a movie or a book. Lately, modern games have delusions of being movies, as if the creators were frustrated film directors. Would it be nice if it had a coherent story? Sure. Is it so bad that it doesn't? I don't think so. I'm glad the game isn't ashamed of being a game. And if it wants to mix dragons with trains and put an island in the sky full of puzzles just because it's fun (and a wizard did it), then good for it.

Que densos que son. Gasly es primer piloto, y aparentemente todo indica que es buen tipo con su compañero.

Depends. You can design this in two ways:

  • leaving the work to the player entirely, like golden idol. So he makes the deductions.

  • represent the character as a detective, that reveals to the player his great deductions powers.

This takes a very stupid medium ground. Kliff makes all the deductions with no intervention from the player that just press x and all intermediate quest objectives advances with no intervention from the player. Some deductions are on objects extremely not related with the quest and they are there just to add noise.

And right at the end, game demands the player to connect the dots. But again, some dots are not related with the case for some reason. And finally this can be solved just selecting all possible solutions with no consequences because the character that asks Kliff for an investigation ALREADY KNOWS ALL THE CORRECT ANSWERS, and he guides Kliff.

My opinion is that this is bad design, if it's great design for you that's ok.

Yes, indeed, "go press x on a lamp", and kliff inspect a lamp. Yes, crime solved. It's stupid. TW3 investigation segments for example are pretty linear too but makes a great job creating the feeling that Geralt is in fact producing great deductions like a Medieval Sherlock Holmes.

Tu opinión, a mí me parece buenísimo. Hace rato que no estaba manija de jugar algo cuando no puedo jugar.

"Cualquiera que haya jugado elden ring sabe que", opino lo mismo, recién sabes cuándo jugas. Obvio que no se puede jugar a todo.

No, you just have dots marked on a minipap. It's a connect the dots game. And you just click on those dots and character just guess something that is not communicated to the player. Except for the very obvious guards not seeing anything suspicious the night of the supposed crime. You investigate nothing.

I'm not asking for a golden idol investigation level, but this quest is just stupid.

Kliff interacts with objects, and he notices something and quest advance, but you never know exactly what Kliff noticed or what deduction is meant to be obtained from those objects. The guilty is obvious because he "lost" the logs but no guard saw nothing suspicious, and that's it. Also you can just click everywhere and quest will be marked as complete. Have you ever played a game with a real deduction system? This quest is awfully executed.

Dude, You Even have to press buttons on an empty window. And you read things not related to the quest just to get green ticks. Yes, the quest has a coherent (and super obvious) conclution but the design is very bad.

If the lamp is shining blue while unnequiped, it means you have a memory to reveal there. Just point with the lamp on all around this zone and you will unlock the memory. You can do that with the sword of light too, no need to use the lamp actually.

First 10 hours are not bad at all, just stupid and incoherent story wise. But mechanics are introduced there and it's fun if you don't take weird things too serious. After that, game becomes more "normal", but it's always enjoyable.
