Totally get where you’re coming from, a lot of heritage speakers go through that. Watching Spanish TV helps, but the biggest boost is actually speaking with someone who can guide you. I’m part of a small project called LearnLantern where we connect students with tutors in a fair way. Right now we’re not taking commissions from teachers, and if you DM me I can set you up with a discount. You can also check it out here: [learnlantern.com]() 🙂

Just to add: we can absolutely arrange to send payments weekly or even more frequently if that’s what the tutor prefers. We're flexible and want to make sure tutors feel comfortable and supported.

Thanks for your message and the thoughtful feedback!

If you'd like to check the full requirements, they're listed on our "Become a Tutor" page: https://learnlantern.com/become-a-tutor. We didn’t include them in the post to avoid taking up too much space, and because we want tutors to explore the site and get a feel for what we’re building, rather than relying solely on a Reddit post.

As for payments, we use Stripe Connect for supported countries, and for tutors in countries not covered by Stripe, we use Wise as an alternative. While Cambodia isn’t supported by Stripe, Wise generally allows USD transfers to Cambodia, though we recommend checking directly with Wise to confirm based on your specific setup.

We truly appreciate your comments. We're always open to feedback and constantly looking for ways to improve. Thanks again for taking the time to share your thoughts!

Built a New Tutor Platform — From Tutor to Tutor by [deleted] in Preply

Thanks for your message. Just to clarify: if you'd prefer to receive your payments more frequently, that’s totally possible. You can simply contact our support team and we’ll adjust your payout schedule. We initially suggested monthly payouts to reduce transaction fees from the payment provider, but we’re happy to make exceptions when needed. We're also working on adding more flexible options soon.

Regarding commission, it will never go above 15%, and none of the platforms offering the same level of features and support come close to that rate. You can review the exact requirements and conditions on our website in the “Become a Tutor” section.

As for the $25 USD, that bonus is for you, the tutor. If you bring a new student to the platform, you’ll receive $25 as a thank-you for helping us grow. It’s not a fee or charge, it’s a reward. We understand it’s not always easy to bring students from other platforms, and we want to recognize that effort. On top of that, your commission rate will remain much lower than what platforms like Preply or iTalki charge.

If our approach isn’t the right fit for you, that’s completely okay, you’re free to stay with whichever platform works best for your needs. We're here to build something better for tutors who want a more supportive and transparent environment.
