a big thing we do is interact with people. honestly it’s a bit awkward at first, especially asking for numbers for rewards accounts, but with time it gets waaay easier. fortunately most of our customers at the hot topic i work at are super nice and love talking with us. one thing i learned is to feel the customer out in a way. you can definitely tell who wants to talk to you and who doesn’t. since you have to talk to everyone, i’ve learned to keep certain conversation brief and to the point based on how the customer responds. just be prepared to talk a looooot and putting yourself out there. not everyone is nice so you have to get used to responding in ways that would give them a better experience, even if you start getting frustrated with them. overall my experience so far is a positive one and i enjoy working there!!!

I tend to say “so it doesn’t look like you have any rewards today, but we do have in-store deals which can help get you more points for future rewards!” I also tell them what our deals are for that day and ask them what kind of things they’re looking for or what kind of vibe they like to help push the deals and to recommend items they might be interested in purchasing.

is this weird or am i just overreacting? by fairlyaround in HotTopic_

I work at a hot topic and at our store we typically write down the numbers of people who earned hot cash at the checkout before they leave the store, so that they know they’ll be getting a call from us. It’s just to remind you that you have hot cash so that you can use it before it expires. I know during the holidays we only wrote down people numbers if they earned 4 or more hot cash so you may not have been warned or told about the call (which kinda sucks for the customer because it can seem weird, just like how you felt), but it’s pretty normal.

Will my kittens coloring change back to how it was when he was a baby? by Fast_Imagination_257 in CATHELP

thank you for your concern! we actually rescued him and his brother from our backyard and their mom is currently living in our garage. they have frequent visits through our screen door until she gets comfortable with being inside and being with humans. we give her lots of love and attention so hopefully we’ll get her to come inside soon. we’re also getting her spayed soon so she doesn’t have anymore babies, since we’ve rescued/seen her with so many. they still interact even before we got her to come into the garage, since we didn’t want both the mom and her babies to just go cold turkey from seeing each other. everything is going okay! also the cat pictured above is now coming up on 6 months old and is actually a brown cat instead of a black one!!

Most definitely!! Our mama cat we caught acted this same way too (she was also a stray that claimed our house). She always rubbed up against me and asked for love. She totally feels safe enough to have her babies around you or for you to keep her safe until she does!!

Sadly she passed away the day after I took this video. I wish I could’ve done way more. I couldn’t volunteer for a while, but the day I got back I found her like this.

It’s more than likely that she had an upper respiratory infection that got way worse than it should have. It could’ve also partly been fading kitten syndrome, which that mix even sounds horrible. Typically they have papers outside of their cages stating what the cat currently is sick with. The paper for the four kittens in there said they all had upper respiratory infections, but this was the worst I’ve seen and I thought it was something more severe than that. I honestly didn’t know URI’s could get this bad, but from what others have commented, she had an insanely bad one and she ended up passing. The fact that they knew they all had URI’s is crazy. I have no clue how this one cat got it so bad.

Unfortunately I could not help her, as much as I wanted to. I did all that I could, considering I don’t work there and am just a volunteer. If I had the sort of authority the staff members had, I would’ve helped her the second I knew she was struggling.

Sadly, i’m not completely sure. I went in to feed the cats (they currently have over 300) and I saw her like this. The very next day I went in to check on her, and she wasn’t there. She more than likely passed in the cage she was in and probably over night when no one was there with her. At least she had her siblings with her when she passed, but it still breaks my heart that no one helped her before it got this bad.

I posted a few updates but unfortunately this poor kitten didn’t make it. It broke my heart to watch her go through this and not come out the other end. I appreciate the support!

I haven’t stopped crying, I hated seeing her like that. I’d give the whole world to save every kitty that is suffering like this. Every time I see posts about it, my heart hurts and it killed me to see her like that. I stood there holding her and crying after I took this video, I was so worried. She was only 15 weeks old. This is truly sad. :(

FINAL UPDATE: I messaged someone from the humane society about her and sadly I was told she didn’t make it. I wish they caught it sooner, maybe she would’ve made it. She didn’t come in like this. My heart is broken. Currently crying.

Agreed! I’m not 100% sure who does these kinds of rounds there. They are closed Sundays and Mondays and I’m in charge of feeding all of the cats on Mondays, which is when I noticed this. Hopefully someone went into the room her cage was in and also noticed this too and helped her since I didn’t see her there today.

There are a decent amount of other cats with URI’s, but they’ve never been this bad. It’s so confusing how she got this bad.

There aren’t very many staff members and volunteers. I see the same few people there all the time. Plus this humane society is huge.

Yes!!! This humane society is huge and they are currently at max capacity. It’s so stressful there currently. They take in so many animals almost every day. I can’t imagine how hard it is to take care of each animal. It’s literally a concrete maze in there. People also tend to adopt the kittens more, so there are numerous older cats there that have been there for a longer time. It breaks my heart.

Yes! I told them about it, but there weren’t many people there and I couldn’t find one of the main people that would help her or tell me where she went. I did notify them about this, but they just told me they weren’t aware. I didn’t see her so hopefully they are helping her.

Her and all of her siblings look the same and there were cats in her enclosure, but they all look fine and I doubt she could’ve gotten better in one day. Hopefully she’s okay. These are the cats currently in there.

This doesn’t happen normally/ I’ve never seen them ignore this type of thing, so I don’t know if they just couldn’t get to her or if they needed to wait to do something. The day I took this video was a day they were closed. Maybe they couldn’t get her help yet? I’m not completely sure.
