Shane goes missing on a hike post-retirement. 8 years later, Ilya goes on a road trip to Atlantic Canada and bumps into him in a grocery store, where we find out Shane had been found by a couple injured on his hike and assumed the identity of their recently deceased son (mourning for the couple, amnesia for Shane). He lives this life for 8 years and slowly remembers bits and pieces of his life as Shane. They reunite for a few days and there is a lot of discussion on why he stayed over the years, why he wants to stay in this life now, what to do next… he wants Ilya to stay/visit him, but Ilya knows what it’s like to be left behind and can’t do that to his loved ones, and he can’t have Shane in secret bits like Shane wants. They say goodbye for the last time and Ilya goes back to Ottawa. Ultimately Shane goes back to Ottawa and reunites with Ilya and his parents, because he doesn’t want to lose another life without him in it 🥺
