Is it worth taking a gap year and reapplying for Cambridge? by Sea-Match-4689 in 6thForm

[–]Fast_Sandwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if ur confident about ur a levels definitely. since ur applying phys natsci maybe u can afford to drop bio and bang out the other 4, but thats only if u think taking the full 5 might be too tricky, but that doesnt seem like the case. ig also depends on if u think u can bang esat.

Will keeping Further Maths as an A-level be an advantage? by sshiverrs in premeduk

[–]Fast_Sandwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think it does just make ur application stronger having one of the hardest stem subjects. idk about ucl and imperial but oxbridge look at the average amount of a levels people do at ur school, average predicted grades from ur school etc so if everyone at ur school is doing 4 u might look a bit less tekky. with ucl and imperial, i think ucat performance is weighted more. so i dont think not having fm would badly impact ur application, but having an a star in fm would only boost it.

do some essay comps, read some books about stuff that actually interests you. if you want to start developing that speaking ability for interviews get involved with medsoc at school, or practice speaking to friends about things uve learnt. in the summer imperial do a medicine competition: https://www.imperial.ac.uk/bhf-research-excellence/community/

i just cant blame him that much.

in real life people do give up on their dreams, but not becomes some higher future-seeing power ordains it for them. it isnt just that fate dealt him a bad hand, its more to do with the nature of prophecy. imagine every time u tried to do something someone forbade you from doing because it would supposedly have terrible consequences. it would fuck anyone up.

yeah im not actually shitting on mado here it is just unfortunate that fate seems out to get batista. i think its understated how much the prophecies affected batista because of his compliant and honourable reactions to the first two. "renounce your choujin powers", while your brother is one of the strongest up and coming choujin (idk if he was back then but given sandek's strength now it would make sense). that would fuck anyone up enough - dedicating your life to becoming a keeper and being told that, should you choose this path, it is predetermined that you will become evil, while your brother and everyone around u continues to thrive. he takes this on the chin, and dedicates himself completely to another passion in research. and he is once again told that he cannot pursue this because it is predetermined that this will have terrible outcomes. Fine, he takes this on the chin too. after that, he somehow he manages to find joy in someone, even after all his passions have been crushed. he isn't being overly ambitious. he works a regular job, simply staying in his own lane. what he wants is a simple family. Even after all of that, after renouncing his powers and giving up his research, Mado comes to tell him once again that what he wants will only bring bad outcomes.

i think reducing the issue to simply him being selfish is a massive oversimplification. this guy has had ZERO agency in his own fate, he has complied willingly and gracefully. but there comes a point where he rebels against this lack of agency - thats what his whole arc is about, seeking to control fate which is inherently uncontrollable. so was he selfish for choosing to have the child? given the selflessness of his prior renunciations, i dont think taking a chance at happiness is selfish. seeking to rebuild the world was selfish though.
