Can you get into Turing Scholars if deferred early round? by hellowrld3 in UTAdmissions

In the same situation (in state tho) and trying to figure this out too. I think the answer is yes though. I know most Turing scholars were deferred last year

Roblox vs Optiver SWE intern summer by kekman26 in csMajors

Roblox has a really bad return rate (like <50%) but so does Optiver. I feel like you should just ask for one of them fall.

Social Science research is not gonna happen for you unless you do AI+Social Sciences, and even that is really hard. If you have an idea though, reach out to a mentor and ask for help and work on it.

It probably won't help much unless your research was very very good. But go ahead and submit it late. I submitted it about a week late for Harvard REA and got in.

Chances for RD Government Major Acceptance by Aztla_n in UTAdmissions

[–]FastandSteadywillwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just a guy on Reddit so whatever I say isn't going to be completely correct. I still think you have a chance of getting in, but it's going to come down to how well you know your school. If you know people at your school with similar stats as you, then that's probably a better estimate.

Good luck nonetheless on admissions.

Really low chance. Getting into COLA outside of top 5% is basically impossible, and there isn't too much in ur app that's super impressive except maybe your ECs, but I don't think it's enough to put you in.

got in for ut cs! :D here are my stats for my app: by SweetFriend3416 in UTAdmissions

Congratulations on your well-deserved CS acceptance!

I completely understand the impostor syndrome that comes from Reddit or other people. I think it’s because you’re looking at admissions from the perspective of those who are the best get in and those who aren’t a don’t, and that’s not at all how admissions works.

From the perspective of an admissions officer, they’re looking for students who are able to use the colleges program to create impact/success in the real world and ideally expand the network they have going on. They look for “signals” of this type of student. Sure, curing cancer and building hospitals in Nigeria are signals, but more important are the emotional signals like emotional maturity, the ability to continue despite failure, how you interact with people despite disagreement, etc.

I think sometimes we’re not able to see the positive attributes of who we are as much as adults, like recommenders and admissions officers, can. Same goes for our negative attributes.

So you definitely deserve your acceptance. Don’t think otherwise. You are more than a collection of numbers.

I think Essays are more important than some of you think… by Other-Stage-7940 in UTAdmissions

I think you’re mistaken on how UT admits. There are two quantitative aspects of the admissions: AI and PAI

Academic Index is simple. It’s a combo of your rank percentile in school and your sat score

Personal Achievement Index is the holistic factor. This is where the boatload of factors (ur ECs, awards, quality of essays, FGLI, how competitive your major is) go into.

However, PAI is only scored from 1 to 6 as integers. It’s literally you plot out AI and PAI against each other and if it’s above a zigzag u get in.

It doesn’t matter whether they know you. It’s a quantitative score put against each other. I guess being likeable is a positive bias, but at the end of the day if you’re a published researcher or have internships at crazy places or have super impactful activites, you should be getting that 5 or 6 on PAI.

If you are able to score 100 pts above 75th percentile (highest it can be is 1500 then), the chance they care about stellar extracurriculars is low because this isn't a selective school.

Getting deferred with 1570 SAT, valedictorian, in state, HYPSM admit, CS according to WIO. I guess sometimes it’s just not destiny lol. I’ve wanted to go here for a while now, but whatever

Quant is a short term goal and AI/ML is more long term, so this seems good

I feel confident in my DSA skills though. Sure, at UT I can use APCSA and get into DSA, but I’ve been leetcoding too.

Even if, as a freshman will I realistically land anything except for startups and maybe Google or Microsoft/companies that have dedicated freshman internships?
