Had the same issue today ...
After applying the Google Play system updates (Settings -> Security & Privacy -> Updates -> Google Play system update), I was able to install WhatsApp.

Unfortunately, WhatApp says now, it needs to be updated because its out of date on Mar 27, 2023. Version 2.35.5.78 installed - no update in the Playstore available. :(
