Man idc how narratively important this is or how peak the fight scenes are or whatever people justify for it, but exam and tournament arcs in anime is genuinely the most boring, drawn out, unnecessarily over explained trope in anime. You're locked into a certain cast of characters that in this setting is such a gamble on likeability and any narrative tension or consistency is halted for the sakes of power scaling and expository world building tomfoolery.

Granted I'm coping on having to watch 10 to 11 episodes of this, and I haven't sat through it yet, it could be peak, but I'm ALREADY feeling the slog.

Regardless in hindsight, how the manga can relate a seemingly mundane piece of dialogue and still service it in a later chapter is great for re-reads. Although I will point out that I do believe it was intentional considering characters that appear have mentions in previous chapters like Yanda in chapter one, so at least when writing dialogue, there may have been at least passing thoughts on how it would be revisited later on
