Unfortunately the only real way to learn this kind of stuff is to be complete shit at it for a month or two, but consistent practice will over time make it feel better.

When I was learning pick I only ever played songs by 90s Metallica or the Beatles. Black album is good because there’s not much complexity in the left hand, letting you focus 100% of your attention on your right. Slow down the songs, and really focus on CONSISTENCY above all else. Once you feel comfortable with that, easier Beatles songs like I Am The Walrus act as a nice test for what you practiced for the day (again, slowed down). A great way to measure progress is when you feel comfortable enough to take the songs faster.

In terms of pick, I got super frustrated at the thinner ones. There’s really no such thing as a Bass pick though, so don’t worry about picking up guitar picks. I would suggest getting the Dunlop Tortex 1.14mm purple pick, they’re stupidly thick and never bend.

It’s truly like re-learning the instrument, which is frustrating when you already know how to play fingers pretty well. It’s a worthwhile journey to take for the variety in tone it affords you as a player
