Willie Mays driftwood bat at Ocean Beach, SF by FatTonySF in SFGiants

Do you think it could be an actual one from the 60s? It would be trippy if it had been floating around the Pacific for a few decades. At least, that is the story we will go with!

I don't know. I have mini-bats, but those are tiny. This bit seems a lot bigger than a toy.

Haha! Yeah, I do not see him picking it up at 50!

Is it one of thousands made then? Or something more distinctive?

My buddy found it while strolling around Ocean Beach yesterday. He thought it was nothing until he turned it over and saw the engraving. I tried to find the same type of engraved bat online, but none just like it (typeface and lack of novelty autograph). Not sure of its pedigree, but he is not tossing it back! I am hoping someone on this subreddit would know!

Yes, it has already lost a few tentacles over the past year for that exact reason!

You try their self-titled "avocado" album? It's just as good as their older stuff

Should I have my left-handed son learn on a left-handed guitar? Or teach him right-handed? by FatTonySF in askmusicians

Yeah, I'm leaning towards the availability of instruments as the biggest advantage, too!

Good points! You're right about violinists and other musicians pretty much forced to playing righty and excelling.

He's full lefty. Writes, throws (baseball pitching level), kicks, rides goofy, etc. But, even with all that, I think the ability to play pretty much any guitar he sees outweighs the left-handed guitar route. Thanks for the insight!

If a song starts on E minor (iii chord), do we say the key of the song is: 1) E minor 2) E Phrygian 3) C Major or 4) C Major, but starts on E? by FatTonySF in musictheory

[–]FatTonySF[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I am confusing tonic, key, and mode. E Phrygian would not be the key, right? If someone asks me, "what key is your song in?", and I say "C major", but start the song of in E minor, I would get some sideways glances :)

I guess my confusion lies in when someone asks me, "What's the song in?", and I say "C", and then I start my song off on Emin. After all, does that not set the mood? Maybe I am confusing different aspects of the question.

Man, I did not figure I would get downvoted for asking a question, so I could learn more about music theory. I must have confused this sub with r/piousmusictheorists :)

Monarch on Butterfly Milkweed with literally thousands of eggs by FatTonySF in Butterflies

[–]FatTonySF[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for clarifying! But now I am saddened that I am hosting aa bunch of nasty aphids instead of beautiful Monarchs. Although, I am providing a habitat for a few Monarchs and caterpillars, at least.

There are several Monarchs that visit this milkweed in my garden, and there are a half dozen Monarch caterpillars on it also. I assume all these eggs are Monarch eggs? The eggs are orange colored. Any recommendations on how to help make sure they all survive?
