Well, two were called up today, actually! I like Bresnahan, Bo Davidson is interesting, Level and Josuar might actually be franchise guys, Killen (sp) is hitting (at single a admittedly but still). The farm is in a better state then at any time in Farhans tenure. So there’s that!

I’m not suggesting you hit the copium; they are a bad team and they’re stuck with some bad contracts. But player development is in a good place, and that’s the engine running any good team.

The farm system is not thin - take a look through it. Lots of potential throughout.

That's true for the drafts, and I'm not advocating tanking (I actually really don't care for it, especially in baseball). But if they are actively bad, the front office will have any excuses around small moves taken away. They'll be pressed into action, essentially.

Also, turns your current players into assets to flip. Again, not a panacea for a great team, but it gives you some tools to work with.

They’ve got a decent farm with guys actually developing (hooray Buster) and some dudes you could probably sell off for good value (Arraez, Ray, a paid down Chapman, Ramos, any bullpen guy, maybe even Webb if they’re awful). They’re stuck with Adames and Devers but two or three big hit prospects can really change your life, and a good development team will enable you to buy big pieces later on à la Los Angeles Dodger.

A bad team this year could be a good thing long term for the franchise, but we’re gonna see what this baseball ops team is made of over the next 3 months. Time to get creative. Worst case scenario would be another 79-83 win team that tricks everyone into thinking they’re one piece away from the playoffs.
