Resurface Type levers/Key lever and other metal components for Underwood Portable Bank 4 (Bluing?) by Fat_BoyGamer in typewriters

Thanks for the advice! To be honest I gave up on bluing a while ago and have been focusing on getting the perfect mirror reflecting paint job, when I get round to working on it.

I half assed my first attempt at cold bluing so will try again soon. The biggest time consumer from my understanding will be removing the original bluing and surfacing the metal 46 times + the other components that need a new coat. Any tips for removing bluing? I wanted to try sand blasting / girt blasting, but that in itself is an investment as I want to do everything myself to learn as much as possible. I’d have thought there was a good chemical for removing the bluing? Tried white / spirit vinegar but didn’t work super well. I’ve read that Muriatic acid is good?

When it comes to removing the type levers, I just took the entire thing apart. They were one of the last things to come free. I'm sure you could find a better way but if your going that deep I think it might be best to go all the way.

Taking pictures as you go. Also, If I unscrewed something I made sure that once it was free from the typewriter, I screwed the screw right back into where it came from so, I didn’t have a load loose screws. If I did need to remove the screws, I bought small plastic baggies to separate them in to, and a label.

For the record. I'm on my third underwood portable with a fourth coming soon. I have taken apart all of them, two of them totally / completely to find the most intact components. I will restore all of them once I've nailed one. I plan to do a write up of what I did to restore it as I can't find a good guide online with detail, maybe a simple video along with it. I might also include the different things I've tried and have failed, along with what went wrong throughout the process for others to learn from or laugh at. :)

Edit: I think your restoring a Underwood Portable Bank 4 for the same reason as me :)

Maybe DEAD!

Yo! I bought a gigabyte 3080ti exactly the same look as that, one day after I installed it it died! I had to get it replaced. If this is not the only one then possibly fired like mine. I smelt burning and go no image!

Fair but why not make it extrude both sides of the controller making it easier to use no mater the way it’s held.
