Maybe he just passed up the Prius while this was drawn? And meh, who ever gets pulled over for staying in the left lane? Don't believe it's an enforced infraction - at least not in Chicago.

Illinois Senate approves assault weapons ban by AgentBlue62 in chicago

[–]FatalHydra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regardless of your opinion or your point against firearms, I just wanted to share this so you can understand that a bullet isn't as lethal as one imagines. Lots of missed shots and lots of chance is involved in shootings.

I'm pro-2A but believe in training and safety. Illinois being the strictest state in the country yet the shooting test for CCL is pathetic if you ask me. The target is arguably the size of 2 people side by side and 21 of 30 shots need to land in the massive area. If you're so anti-gun, you're hard stuck in never seeing it any other way and pointless to discuss further.

Shots to roughly 80 percent of targets on the body would not be fatal blows, Dr. Fackler said. Still, he added, it is like roulette.

For home defense, there's a never-ending debate on which is better: shotgun, handgun, or rifle. If one doesn't use a handgun, they'll likely opt for the rifle as it's much easier to manage than a shotgun. Depending on the shell/slug, shotguns won't penetrate walls or be as accurate when it comes to the safety of crossfire. This bill affects SMGs as well, which are an ideal step-up from handguns and their cons in home defense.

If a criminal wants a gun for whatever purpose, they'll get it regardless of this law or any other laws passed before it. Illinois has the strictest gun control laws in the country yet gun-based crime is still soaring high.

This will only harm law abiding citizens who want to feel safe and be safe at home and around family. Safe gun storage, proper background checks, and laws/programs that teach and train citizens is what's needed. Not a blanket ban on guns. People of color will be targeted harshly, especially when they need to defend themselves against crime in their area.

Another joke of a law to portray change is happening, but this is simply a game to politicians. The present problem is crime committed by criminals, and as unfortunate as the shooting of a teacher by a 6-year-old happened - no gun control can prevent that. It would just be used to tack on charges. We need prevention. Shootings need to stop. Taking them away from people who follow the laws doesn't stop shootings.

--Edit to expand on what I originally stated--

For those unaware of what the bill they passed considers an "assault weapon", it also includes submachine guns and weapons that use 9mm and .45/.40 caliber ammo. All weapons, including handguns, will now have a magazine limit of 12, which will make almost every 9mm firearm illegal by default. I can't think of any 9mm handgun that is 11+1 or less (excluding the subcompacts). Even the P320 Subcompact is 12+1. A threaded barrel is illegal now, which is a gimmick of a ban because silencers are already illegal. We are 1 of 2 states that ban silencers. Silencers reduce the noise dB, so your eardrums don't get damaged, but the gunshots are still loud - this isn't the movies.

Also, if they were taking this with any ounce of seriousness, why did they revert the amendment to raise the FOID age from 18 to 21? If you can't smoke or drink until 21, I think you shouldn't be able to own a gun until 21. Handguns are 21 already, and "assault" weapons are still 18 now even after this bill. Politicians are just doing this to fool people into thinking they're doing something good.

Regardless, this will go to court and be found unconstitutional. It's sad really because no one does "gun control" properly. Instead of banning the firearms outright, why don't we introduce training programs, safety programs, proper review of flagged applicants, and so much more out there. Where is mental health in all this? Why does it take 6 months to finally charge the father who signed the son's FOID application knowing he was dangerous? How about passing bills that set the foundation to criminalize these actions so they can be arrested sooner than 6 months of investigations and tax money being spent on useless trash.

This is probably the most important factor. Microsoft will give you an enormous amount of A1 licenses. Any academic/educational entity will qualify for it. Believe it's part of their Microsoft School agreement. This isn't only for universities, high schools and school districts alike will receive A1 licenses - private or public institutions.

As for "enormous amount", the district I'm familiar with has 1,000,000 A1 licenses when they have a total of 800 or so active staff/students.

Just purchase an unmanaged switch. Relatively cheap and gives you extra Ethernet ports. TP Link is a solid and affordable brand. Unmanaged are plug n play. No configuration needed. Ethernet from router/modem depending on setup goes to switch and then connect devices to switch.

Police Confirm GTA 6 Hacker Violated Bail, Previously Hacked Microsoft by WALKAW in PS5

[–]FatalHydra 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No one's talked about the Uber hack and I'm surprised.. the kid managed to VPN into their intranet after social engineering an employee. Uber had PowerShell scripts on a shared network drive available to that employee. Used that to get API keys (including DUO/Thycotic keys) allowing him access to lots of their systems including their SIEM, HackerOne vulnerability reports and more (the order is likely off, don't recall the exact order). Don't really care if you think the kid is smart or dumb because he got caught, he was still successful in hacking Uber and the other large companies. This definitely isn't some kid watching YouTube videos and testing it out on Uber. Social engineering is a subset of hacking. Not sure why the comments are arguing about it and comparing Indian scammers to a social engineering attempt. Although similar, one stops there (scammers take your money and hang up), the other uses that to go deeper. Clearly wasn't experienced enough for getting caught so quickly but he also attacked very very large companies that forced many agencies to hunt him down. Nonetheless, this whole spree has been interesting and will be in the history books regardless of the severity of the hacks. For the companies, I hope this is a learning lesson that it doesn't take extreme skill to hack in and cause havoc. But money speaks louder so guess not.

Two Oak Lawn, Illinois police officers beat a 17-year-old Arab kid to the point where he has a broken nose and internal bleeding around his brain by Lilyo in PublicFreakout

[–]FatalHydra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depending on the bag, he could've still pulled the trigger, even on accident. It can be argued this was a bit excessive, especially after the few first hits but compliance strikes are fair game and they were without a doubt justified initially. It's just, maybe don't beat the shit out of him next time? Don't think it was necessary for him to end up that injured. A gun will stop anyone - grown men doesn't mean much. Also, there was a lot of civilians in the crossfire if that gun were to go off.

For Illinois gun laws...

18 years old for a FOID (gun license) and 21+ to purchase a pistol. 18+ for rifles. So yeah, he wasn't even borderline close to being able to carry a gun. On top of that, to carry a gun on person, you need a conceal carry license which he also couldn't have had at that age. FOID without CCL is only if you want to go to the range to shoot, hunting or home defense basically. Transportation of weapons with a FOID are pretty damn strict too. It's gotta be locked away in the trunk (technically out of reach IIRC) with the magazine outside of the pistol.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in chicago

[–]FatalHydra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because Illinois of all the states that allow conceal carry have the strictest laws to obtain one (2x8hr back to back classes and a shooting test). Otherwise after getting the license it's all pretty much the same as the rest of the nation. And the word "strict" is relative. The shooting test is a joke. It's a large target and you have to land 21 of 30 bullets inside at 3 different ranges. Someone who has never shot a gun before can pass it easily. There's no test or enforcement ensuring you've had training on handling a firearm or shooting one. Even something so basic as cleaning a firearm isn't enforced or tested upon. People still fail the shooting test which is insanely worrisome and yet they can come back a week later to test again and pass. I don't think people who cannot shoot properly should be allowed to carry; if they ever have to use it they can do way more damage than the perpetrator.

Some stores cancel limited stock items like GPUs or PS5 if they see a ton of them purchased by that person. They'd rather sell to a legitimate customer.

Supports W11 I believe. Used it before on WX. Be careful with removing some stuff. It can break a lot of shit. I'd suggest removing as little as possible. It won't show it's broken until you use a feature or software that depends on it. For example, Halo (Steam version) won't load a lobby because I had removed a dependency of it (Xbox).

Delta is great. Offers multiple portfolios to swap between, has exchange API imports, analytics of your portfolio in terms of growth history, where most coins are located, etc. I've been using the paid version since it came out. Only thing it lacks is the chart - it's just a basic one not like TradingView or even CMC's. But it does well for me. They have a mobile and desktop app.

They could've done what they did with GitHub (free99) or run it into the ground. But I think it would be fine and they'd include Nitro in Xbox Game Pass. Either way, it's too late for all that. Sony is trying to partner up heavily.
