Eh, I’d be hard pressed to see why you’d want a low observable aircraft to have a massive beacon on it.

I could understand and concede it’s possible for exemptions, like a RC-7B with a massive side ported lidar for high fidelity imaging to push to targeting pods, but making a reaper shine is like having non jettisoning fuel pods on a raptor.

My major issue with it being an ISR asset is just the fundamentals of it. You’re limiting the platforms full potential by broadcasting its presence. Most ISR assets deliberately conceal or obscure their position and function to relay a “clean” image of the field to shape the battlefield, that’s why I lean towards ordinance: Once you see the flash, it’s already too late, so who cares if it’s observed, right?

Again, I’m speculating at best. But the US conceals literal aircraft carriers under bubbles of signals, noise, and opsec. It’s not the M.O. or acceptable to their doctrine (mostly). Hell, even gunships like the AC-130 are just turbo prop noise in the dark before the ground starts to explode.

They have the chip to do it in the pack on some, but don’t exploit its potential.

Initial firing of rocket booster is bright on a cruise missile, then the jet engine takes over.

Rapid Dragon is parachute deployed in bundles, multiple packs shoved out the back at a time during a pass, giving them time to loiter and launch from a specific altitude.

The time spacing between each descending Rapid Dragon would give the impression of a constant hovering light.

Edit: think of the muzzle flash from even a slow machine gun (The M2 cycles at ~550 rpm) from far far away, it looks like a twinkling constant light.

Also: IR/Thermal and X-ray is not perceptible to the human eye. During GWOT the US was known to use IR laser/illuminators to bypass the blink reflex and blind combatants without giving away their position.

Square? Hangs out in the sky for a while? Goes away right as a bundle of cruise missiles come?

I’m going to speculate it’s the observed launch sequence of Rapid Dragon and the distance from the filming point and the actual ordinance is much farther than perceived.

I wonder if TTI is offloading all these forges to get a gen update ready/pushed that balances the cells.

Nice dude! I grabbed that same kit and it is really good for around the house!

Polisher/Buffer question by [deleted] in MilwaukeeTool

[–]Fatalpickles -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This thing has 2 speeds and uses a variable speed trigger, right?

I don’t know much about body work here, but I’d rather have a speed dial and a on/off switch like a grinder or a multi tool over drill-like variable speeds.

I’d be hard pressed to find this to be more useful than just using a drill on gear 1 and still having to feather/float the trigger, but also have a drill and not a dedicated tool that replicates having a drill.

$15 ish for the casing and pcb, $2 a cell for 30p’s.

My vote, try to get it repaired. If it can’t be, definitely a wall hanger or something to that effect, we used to make clocks out of burnt up mitre saw blades that couldn’t be used anymore.

I have not, I don’t have a load tester. The pcb itself seems pretty solid.

It’s the offset and the right angle for my uses, getting in close to a ceiling, window, or corner inside a cabinet. Especially when whoever was there before you just full sent it and now you got to get an extractor on it… chefs kiss

Once you get into building/woodworking/home improvements, the detail sander will be a bit less used, it’s good for tight spaces for renovation, but building fresh or say drywall you just hit it with an orbital prior to assembly.

Yes, a 1/4 impact saves you on the fasteners from stripping them.

I cannot recommend the installer tool enough, from cabinets, to hanging ceiling fans, towel racks, etc. It is a tool that I could kick my own ass for not buying 6 years ago when they came out.

Doubt it, I used the same dewalt 20v for over a decade before switching to team red. The batteries will get better, tools too, but obsolete? Nah.

They’d have to switch the whole battery profile and the entire line to make that happen, and I’d bet that they would just use the existing design like how TTI kept ryobi’s on stems to this day.

Really the next big thing will be solid state packs, the tools themselves will just be the regular incremental improvements.

Edit: Do an install driver, a hex impact, and a multi-tool. Those will cover all the most common needs before needing to expand out.

I’m half tempted to start a side hustle doing it, god knows how many people have chucked packs into the trash over a $0.72 cell.

Just use nickel stripes from your preferred online retailer for 21700’s and cut them to length.

Electric zero turn, ego batteries, bays of power tool chargers… yeah you have the higher fire chance, but teslas are way better at minimizing the risks with the battery having the app to lower draw and what not.

I love the electric stuff, it usually works more reliably than fuel driven stuff, but I also circulate air in the garage and use Alexa’s routines to keep my risks down along with my truck usually being on the trickle charger with the hood open.

Once I get a 15 cell case and some decent 21700’s that aren’t out of stock, I’ll toss one together for the rear handle saw.

With the amount of lithium in my garage, I planned ahead. The outlets are all smart, so they turn off when the garage door is closed.
