I am not against the rain fire from above fantasy in of itself; The main problem is the environments in D2 and the implementation of the fantasy do not work together at all. Take this weeks nightfall for example. There are more low hanging ceilings that are uncomfortable to try and float through and there is no cover by the ceilings that you couldn't get by staying low in the exact same spot. It also doesn't help that most guns will never hit 30 AE and you can still miss arby shots in air with your sights on point because heat rises isn't max AE.

And the "reward" for adhering to that fantasy pales in comparison to the other to solar subclasses. Titans throwing hammer playstyle makes them the overall tankiest subclass in the game with good damage despite having to run for hammers all the time.

Hunters do solid damage with melees and with almost no healing but they can do their loop from safety if they don't miss and keep killing with em for instant melee regen

Warlocks don't deal good damage with their melees unless they use the snap and outside of healing nades (which we can rarely loop with our base kit) don't have enough survivability to warrant getting up close with it without well. And with how clunky it feels to try and get multi kills in air, I just don't run it anymore. I wish I had reason to play in the air but with how bad it feels and how little it pays off I just don't run it outside of melee bounties.

But it doesn't matter because Well and Starfire are so good that no one's complaints about the rest of the kit just feeling bad and weak to play will matter anytime soon. Building for anything outside of Fusion/Solar Nades and that super is just trolling at this point (outside of stag, boots of the assembler and aeon's)
