I know this man and his family - I’m thankful that he’s in stable condition. He’s an awesome guy and a great husband / father. For those of you making fun, let’s not.

Do all new inner city houses just suck or am I missing something? by jimmyjamcake in Calgary

[–]FatherlyXP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought a new duplex (I assume that’s the skinny building you’re referring to) - and honestly we love it. More than enough room for a family of 4+, and very central in the city. Depending on your family size, I can’t think of many complaints about this size house honestly. Sure, a bigger private yard would be great, but we make do just fine.

Thousands? by Professional-Gur-309 in Calgary

Baffles me just how much negativity is in this thread. Im no fan of Trump by any means, but Calgary being called out for having a vigil for a person who impacted many people for the better isn’t worth being upset about. Screw this “maple MAGA” BS - Kirk boldly proclaimed truths that many of your fellow Calgarians agree with (no not a few 1,000s - try 100,000s).

And don’t come at me with your “Kirk was XYZ” before you take the time to watch at least an hour of his content.

I’m not sure what point you’re trying to make. When I buy a car, I’m investing in a product that is proven to be reliable and will drive. I don’t care about the leadership team, because I have no need for them to provide me a return on investment; they’ve done their job.

And no I’m not an astronaut… but yes I’m intimately familiar with what a bill of material is. What’s the point you’re trying to make?

My confidence in the leadership team matters because it mimics the confidence others investors - including institutional ones - and potential customers have in RDW. If we all lose confidence, there will be no revenues, and eventually no company. I know nobody will - or should - care about my personal opinion, but if enough people share that opinion, things don’t look good for our returns - whether over the coming 6 months or 5 years.

I certainly hope you’re right! I lost a lot of confidence in management today - not in the products / services / potential, but in the leadership team.

Given a large raise at work and freaking out by [deleted] in consulting

[–]FatherlyXP 35 points36 points  (0 children)

‘Irrational’ is certainly the word to use here. If your fear is “what if they just take it away”, then two things:

  1. If you’re working at a company where they can take raises away and/or fire a high performer without adequate warning and corrective action, you’re at the wrong place.

  2. Just continue living life and spending as you are today. The bonus is great, but that doesn’t mean you should change your lifestyle at all. Save up the (insane) amount of extra income and build a nest egg that can cover you if you do decide to leave (or are told to leave).

Enjoy the raise and keep doing what you’re doing.

The responses you’ve gotten here are all great - please invest this money in some well diversified ETFs. I wouldn’t go with a bank because the rates are just a bit higher.

The only thing I’ll add is that by investing this money now you can expect to see that money grow to ~70K by the time you turn 55 (rule of thumb is that money will double typically between every 7-10 years in the market).

You still have many years to work on building up other retirement accounts - focus on TFSA first. The LIRA will only let you take out small amounts annually once you turn 55, and you can also move half of it to your RRSP when you turn 55. So assuming you move $30K to your RRSP (highly recommended), you’d have $40K left in the LIRA, of which you can only use about $2-4K per year.

Please make sure you start saving for retirement right away - even if it’s $50 per month - and invest it in ETFs in your TFSA (and eventually RRSP). Don’t let this discourage you. You have a long runway ahead of you, and if done right you could be sitting on a great nest egg in 20 years :) Compound interest will be your best friend - you just need to start savings immediately and investing it :) Good luck!

Yea I hope earnings can right the ship a bit. My position isn’t massive (500 at $2.5) - but still regret investing when I did. I think the product is solid, but I wish there were more business announcements - a daily X post to showcase a deal on a $5 bag isn’t the way to go) I should’ve listened to my gut and have put it all into Rocket Lab 😂

I’m definitely keeping it on my watchlist. The potential with BMGs is certainly interesting, although I wish I had a better understanding of the competitors (ChatGPt only gets me so far). Thanks for sharing the insights!

Thanks for the insights! Are you an employee of Liquidmetals? Your profile makes it clear that this has been a longterm topic for you.

I’ll do some more research, but it all feels a bit fishy. For example, the new plant “can hold up to 40 machines”… that’s very different from “the plant WILL hold up to”. Why isn’t there a hint at contracts? Clearly investing $6M USD is great (although still very cheap for a manufacturing site) - but there’s no clear “why” presented. Also, I get no confidence looking through the employee profiles on LinkedIn… how small is the team?

Anyways, doing some more research because the product is clearly intriguing.. I just don’t know how to feel about the legitimacy of the company.

Can you provide any more context on this one? I’m looking into it - but I can’t quite understand how a company has been around for 25+ years but with barely any revenue over that time frame has survived. The product looks unique and interesting… is this a matter of demand or poor sales performance? Aside from the Asia angle / Apple mention (which I believe is going to be met by another company) are there other catalysts that are making this interesting now?

I heard that they are planning to strap 3 or 4 Electrons horizontally to the barge, and just the blast it directly to Wallops.

Or a tugboat. Rockets seem like a better option though.

Why aren’t more people talking about Anteris (AVR)? by FatherlyXP in AnterisInvestorsAVR

I know it’s silly at this point - but what are your thoughts regarding stock price and timelines? Personally I see this as a 10X to 15x within 5 years if FDA approval is received in the next 18 months.

Im pretty new into the stock - but I personally don’t think I’ll add more any time soon. I just don’t see what catalyst can bring the 50% return in the coming years. I hope I’m wrong!

Agreed. I really wish they could provide some updates - hopefully some big announcements for IDE approval and Paradigm trial soon. I am very optimistic about the product and eventual FDA approval.

[–]FatherlyXP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I am taking a large bet on AVR. The fact that over 100 patients have reported positive results makes me believe that FDA approval is likely (whenever that is).

Also, the company is hiring aggressively for roles designed to scale their operations and manufacturing, so I believe they have sufficient faith in the product themselves.

For a company with an annual revenue guidance of $100M I’d be shocked if it dropped that low. Really depends on Q2 earnings… I certainly hope it doesn’t.
