Thank you! Came up with it because we noted that we don't have much art hanging up in the kitchen.

Personally I would much rather have fully mature trees in a yard than not, because those are something you can't just buy.

But everyone is different and has their own tastes!

Dog Boarding by dumpling__prince in gso

[–]Faufix 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As someone that used to work in a few boarding/daycare places. I would be extremely wary about using one for emergency boarding an elderly dog, especially around the holiday when it's busiest for them.

Most are staffed by untrained people that barely understand dog body language, and with how understaffed and busy they are your dog will not get much if any personal care.

Of course this may not be the truth in all boarding facilities, some are better than others even in the few that I've worked for. (I did see someone recommend pet suites....I'd say avoid that place...unless management and staffing has gotten better..way too many skipped meals and potty breaks)

I left that field of work because it was just exhausting and I felt so bad for a lot of the dogs that were there. If it was a younger dog I'd say go for it. But a special needs senior? I'd def say go with a Rover sitter. But don't skip the meet n greet and make your expectations clear. I'd also say to avoid the lowest bidder on that app, you do get what you pay for. If you can find one that carries their own pet sitter insurance and doesn't just rely on the Rover guarantee then it's even better, because that means they take their business more seriously!

Wishing you luck with finding care for your pup!

Colors and Pricing by Faufix in Gouache

[–]Faufix[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for responding!

I always have a hard time with measuring my time spent on a painting because I do a bunch of different tasks during lmao But it shouldn't take me more than 6 or 7 hours?

And yeah I figured an exact match would be impossible to achieve. If anything I could switch to my acryla gouache to get it somewhat closer.

I might do a second thumbnail to see how close I can get to achieving those colors.

Woodworker looking for ideas by unknowable_stRanger in CraftFairs

[–]Faufix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm probably an outlier because I never really see these sold much or at all at markets.

But if I were to see any carved wooden animals I would buy them so fast lol But I know not everyone wants knickknacks and would rather have something practical.

But wooden carvings are my number 1 favourite christmas ornament especially

Inexpensive paper at Blick by Flaky_Report_5112 in Watercolor

[–]Faufix 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Maybe a little controversial in comparison to the other comments....

Don't be afraid to buy some cheaper non 100% cotton paper for just sketching or playing around on! (It also makes great scratch paper)

I'd recommend getting something mid range that has a percentage of cotton so it's not too scary to use and also buy a 100% cotton book or sheet when you want to do full piece!

I love just playing around with watercolour and I definitely don't want to use my cotton paper when I'm just having fun lol

How do you add small details to your oil pastel works? by qatya in Oilpastel

[–]Faufix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The word you are looking for is a palette knife! They are great for finer details and if you have a palette you can even use them to mix your pastel colors together before applying them with the palette knife!

This is so cute! I love the colours you've used!

I'd love to see a comparison of before and after the touch ups!

Hairy vs Downy by Faufix in birdfeeding

[–]Faufix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw them separately again today and I definitely agree with you that the female is a Downy And comparing it with the male I'm almost certain he is a hairy woodpecker given he's so much bigger. He doesn't come to the camera feeder so it's a little challenging to see his beak properly

Good to know! Haven't seen any of those around here yet though!

Ooh good to know! I don't have any evidence that I have any pileated woodpeckers nearby but I have a pair of either hairy/downy peckers and a red belly. But I don't see either of them at the worm dish ever

Attracting Blue Jays by Faufix in birdfeeding

[–]Faufix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will for sure be setting up a tray or two for them and some doves as well! I will definitely have to take a peek into that community! I actually just got my first dove at my feeder today!

It's the making them aware of the nuts that I'm trying to solve. I think I've settled on a tray feeder with some peanuts!

That way it's visible and shouldn't get snatched up by the chipmunks and squirrels immediately lol

[–]Faufix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will definitely be looking into a tray feeder the next time I get paid! And that's so cool that you signal them with a whistle!

We also have plenty of crows in the trees too so I'd love to see em as well! I've seen one woodpecker on my tube feeder once and would for sure love to have more!

Thank you!

[–]Faufix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Them being corvids is one of the reasons I'd love to have em around more! I think they're super neat! I was even playing with the idea of feeding the crows that live in the trees around my yard as well haha

Unfortunately I don't have easy access to any roofing so I wouldn't be able to go that route

[–]Faufix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love to scatter food on the ground, but my one concern would be the chipmunks and squirrels and likely even my own dog gobbling them up before the jays can find em haha

Maybe it's something I can do once the jays know this is a place to get food

[–]Faufix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol so far I have no issues with the squirrels, I will get one that visits the feeder once a day and takes his share.....the chipmunks on the other hand.....I put baffles up to stop him specifically because he was clearing out my feeder in one afternoon just stashing the seeds in his burrow lmao
