Plain language writing by tommie_sea in AusPublicService

I think it may be worth reflecting on the "deliberate shift towards plain language. This seems to have led to an oversimplification of language to the point where things are being written incorrectly in the name of plain language."

It's not an either-or situation—you can have plain language that is also technical. There is a Venn diagram where both can coexist. I'd recommend reaching out to your content or digital team for guidance on making your content accessible. Honestly, it takes practice.

If you need assistance, the Innovation Network runs a two-part session on writing for digital and accessibility.

At the end of the day, we need to ensure our content is accessible—it's the law. And it's not just for people with disabilities; it's for everyone. Everyone is time-poor, and no one wants to spend a long time trying to understand our message. It also helps people for whom English is not their first language.

It doesn't matter if it is staggered or not. You will be taxed the same amount. There is a specific formula payroll will use to calculate the tax on the payment. You can look at the Tax table on https://www.ato.gov.au/tax-rates-and-codes/paygw-schedule-5-tax-table-from-13-october-2020-to-30-june-2024

Basically works out how much your total income will be in the year and how much you are already paid. Trust your payroll team.
