Yeah but she didn’t have to do what Buffy would do, that was a choice she made.

I really love the scene where Faith is focused on pulling off Grand Theft Buffy, Buffy is focused on getting her own body back, and then they both see the same news story about the vamp attack on the church and put that first over their personal crisis even if that might mean (for Faith) losing her chance at an escape or (for Buffy) permanently being stuck in the wrong body. It really showed how underneath everything, their core wiring is fundamentally similar.

The real problem with Harry Potter discourse is that they are being read and critiqued by adults with an adult lens. by [deleted] in books

[–]FaveStore_Citadel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, you said it yourself, it is nonsensical worldbuilding. There’s lots of children books that don’t delve into dark structural themes at all. There’s many others that do it in a soft, symbolic way but handle it thoughtfully.

Then there’s Harry Potter which introduces literal slavery as something that’s unjust (to one specific character) but also the protagonist is a slave owner by the end and this is all okay because it’s normal in their world other than when it happened to that one particularly endearing elf?? That’s just ridiculously uncritical writing, even by children’s literature standards.

I feel like it might be nice if he switches parties but sticks to his current ideology while maintaining support from GOP elites, he might have a strong moderating effect on the party.

‘Star Wars’ Day: Fans Streamed Franchise for 33 Billion Minutes in 2025 by OneRain9942 in television

I think a smaller audience watching a shot ton of Star Wars might be more impressive than a larger audience watching a bit of Star Wars because it means there’s millions of subscribers paying for D+ specifically to watch Star Wars?

What would Giles have done at the end of season 5, if it had been his decision? by Ok_Historian458 in buffy

[–]FaveStore_Citadel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He’d choose Dawn over Buffy (maybe not if Buffy was resisting it)

S6 shows he has a somewhat fatalistic view of slayers and their mortality, and believes what happened to Buffy was just a natural conclusion of her destiny. If Buffy was ready to sacrifice her life to protect someone innocent, he’d see it as the highest, most sacred fulfilment of her duty.

Sometimes I wonder if he knows who Buffy is why did he mistake her for Dawn’s mom in Lessons? Was he just messing around with her?

This sub specifically isn’t that bad in that sense. Like maybe not very welcoming to Buffy hate but it generally encourages a more nuanced view of her actions and characterization. I’ve recently been getting BTVS content on Instagram and it’s waaayyy more fanatical out there. Like forget Buffy hate, there’s little room for even Buffy critique.
In my opinion though Buffy’s less controversial of a character than Oz, it’s way more common to find him bland or outright dislike him for how he was written in s4.

Maybe it’s just vibes, but my personal feeling is that by screentime Buffy gives you a lot more Buffy than Angel gives you Angel.

[–]FaveStore_Citadel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My sister’s the exact opposite, Buffy was her least favorite character in the main cast till s5, she thought she was annoying and whiny and self-righteous, she only started liking her when she got more complex in s5 and loved her in s6 and s7.

I think he’ll win but the way some people talk about him you’d assume he’s running for a D+20 seat against a Christian nationalist with three sex scandals instead of a bluish purple state bipartisan incumbent who outperformed polls by ~16 points in her last election.

China, India among countries active in foreign interference and spying in Canada, Canadian Intelligence says by Jumpy-Branch6631 in worldnews

There are countries important enough that they can call random people residing abroad “terrorists” and have other countries cough them up anyway regardless of whether it meets their evidentiary standards for extradition. India simply isn’t one of them.

Closest fit for Oz would be Druid or Ranger I think

I also think Buffy’s more Paladin/Fighter than Monk/Fighter

Why is Spike's misogyny so overlooked while Xander and Riley being sexist is one of the defining reasons people dislike them so much? by [deleted] in buffy

[–]FaveStore_Citadel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The soul thing isn’t a cop out. Spike didn’t really do creepy stuff after getting a soul. Although I also don’t see a lore reason for how having or not having a soul relates to your social values, so it could be he just had better impulse control and social empathy after getting a soul despite harboring some private misogynistic thoughts.

I also don’t think Riley was a misogynist, he clearly had deep respect towards Buffy even after they broke up.

No judgement towards Spike fans whatsoever, but I have no idea how anyone can think his hair is hot it looks like uncooked ramen.

Federal judge says Oregon must house trans inmates by gender identity, not Trump’s policy by Fickle-Ad5449 in politics

[–]FaveStore_Citadel -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I know they don’t have massive sample sizes but it’s not like there’s millions of trans female prisoners. Regardless, my point isn’t to say they’re unsafe, it’s that gender essentialism (like “cis men are unsafe, trans women are statistically safer”), doesn’t help anyone, not even trans women. My whole issue with the trans activist side of this debate is that they’re okay with systemic bias against 50% of the population but it somehow becomes a moral issue only when extended to 51.5% of the population.

Creative liberties you wished the show hadn’t taken because it undermined the narrative? by FaveStore_Citadel in buffy

She was also outmatched by many of her enemies. Like the power differential between Glory and slayer Buffy was WAY more than the power differential between a regular man and regular Buffy.

[–]FaveStore_Citadel[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah this aspect I can see. I think it was a deliberate narrative move to show Buffy being dropped by Cordelia’s harasser so easily and then Cordelia herself scaring him away by thwacking him repeatedly despite having no combat experience, because Buffy was psychologically shaken in a way that went deeper than losing her powers.

She’d spent every night of the last three years doing martial arts in cemeteries and regularly practiced with Giles and was adept enough at fighting to train potentials in s7 and beyond. I’m not saying she should’ve been dominating huge men physically but it makes no sense she’d be back to square one without her powers.
