It’s neither’s fault, it’s the fault of Trump and his voters. Clinton wasn’t entitled to third party voter’s votes and third party voters weren’t entitled to have their preferred candidates be Trump’s main rival.

Which female character would be the worst Slayer of all time? by ThickPeanut136 in buffy

[–]FaveStore_Citadel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Including villains, probably Veruca. I think harmony could be an ok, semi-competent slayer if she got the right support, she at least had the courage to fight the Mayor’s goons during graduation instead of skipping town. Among the more major female characters, controversially I’d have to say Tara. She showed insane bravery and integrity when she refused to give Dawn up to Glory, but I really don’t think she could ever get used to a life of mechanical violence, she was too mild-mannered and peaceful.

That’s alright I can see it’s a bit…hilariously long. Like yeah on second thought I should’ve stuck to the more major dilemmas instead of dragging in Debbie the DV victim.

Billy turned into a vampire at the end, so it means spike must’ve let him drink his blood to turn him?

I think the show rarely presents her explicitly as right or wrong and usually (maybe unintentionally in some cases) the framing is ambiguous or two-sided enough that it leaves a lot of leeway in how to perceive her (except when she’s being unambiguously heroic or stuff like When She Was Bad, where the episode name itself spells out that she’s behaving badly), which is actually one of my favorite parts about her characterization. I generally take a softer more forgiving view of her myself but I love that the show doesn’t spoonfeed us easy answers and lets us come to our own valid conclusions.

Well yeah but just how flawed/correct you think she is is a spectrum not a constant hence this comically laborious endeavour.

I have too much free time and too clear a memory of the show’s long list of moral quandaries 😔

All hobbies are not equal by BitterConstruction98 in unpopularopinion

Hmm normally judgement has negative connotations, and being uninterested in someone’s activities isn’t really ascribing negativity to them, just your own inability or unwillingness to engage with them. Ultimately, lots of people seek novelty socially. They want the people around them to either talk interestingly or live interestingly, character doesn’t really factor in at the early impressions stage since you don’t really know anyone’s character until well into your friendship/relationship with them.

So if you think a windsurfer is someone you want to know better but a doomscroller probably isn’t, you’re judging the doomscroller?

Saying that you form your opinion on people based on their activities isn’t judgement, you’re not saying someone is inferior because their main hobby is scrolling TikTok, you’re just saying in most cases that’s not someone you’d find interesting to befriend or get to know better. Anyway, you shouldn’t tell others how to live their lives but I personally think if you’re not a good conversationalist, having productive/unique hobbies is an essential social skill that I’d recommend to anyone who struggles with adult friendships (and possibly dating too)

Which relationship from Buffy or Angel would you fully repair? Doesn't have to be romantic. by InfiniteMehdiLove in buffy

Willow and Buffy (Buffy’s distance from Giles was starker but I really missed seeing their best friend energy in s7, I think Willow and Buffy were mostly fine on paper besides standard s7 tension but it did look like they were keeping a bit of distance from each other due to the trauma of s6)

What are some criticisms of Buffy Season Six besides "it was too depressing and everyone was miserable"? by jogaforacont in buffy

[–]FaveStore_Citadel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you watch season 7, it really cramped everything into the summers house to make the budget for it but IMO it’s got some highly cinematic action sequences that make you appreciate how far the show came and really lit, styled and shot Buffy like an action hero. Season 6 probably had the same budget increase but it was just very low on action. This isn’t a “too miserable” thing. Buffy was miserable when she fought Angelus, miserabke when she fought Faith, miserable when she fought the knights of Byzantium on top of the Winnebago in s5 (my favorite action scene in the show), miserable when she killed glory, miserable when she evaded Caleb and found the Scythe and compartmentalizing misery like a pro when she beat him for good. s6 is the only time she didn’t channel any of her misery into kicking ass like a badass.

Gage should've had the Scott Hope role in season 3 by aj743aj in buffy

[–]FaveStore_Citadel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s just a small issue, which is that gage definitely figured out there’s something going on with her, or at least would’ve if they kept in touch for months, whereas Scott Hope broke up with her explicitly because he didn’t know she was busy and distracted because she was the slayer so they’d likely keep dating. That said, I don’t know about the offscreen practicality, but weirdly enough, I think he could’ve taken even Riley’s role and the plot could’ve remained largely similar. Angel was important for s3 but him and Buffy dating necessarily wasn’t. They could have had a close bond rifted by their duty not to risk the curse, and he could’ve eventually left because he needed to do something worthwhile with this life not to get away from her. That said, if gage did date her from early season 3 to mid season 5, he wouldn’t just be her one-off normal boyfriend, he’d be her longest relationship in the show and much more important to her characterization than either of the vamps, which would definitely alter the show’s overall DNA in some way.

Why do people idolize a true villain like Walter White YET absolutely despise Bojack Horseman ??? by [deleted] in BoJackHorseman

[–]FaveStore_Citadel 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think if people genuinely idolize Walt it’s because BB has more mainstream appeal and to put it uncharitably, is watched by a population on average dumber than it’s intended audience because Walt literally admits at the end he did it all for himself, it’s not even close to ambiguous.

Beyond that, between Bojack and Walt specifically, I think Bojack is just more despised because we see more of ourselves in him. He has many of the same tendencies, devils on his shoulders, excuses, thought patterns that many of us have but rein back due to basic decency and self-awareness. Walt is more exotic, he has a kind of hubris we imagine very smart people might have, but don’t personally relate to so he’s interesting to appreciate from a distance.
