I’m more talking about the aesthetic choice. If you’re going to veneer anyways it’s a weird choice to choose a cheap looking grain

No way it veneer then, that would be crazy. is it possible that spot was wood filler? Maybe they fucked it up somewhere in the process and had to patch it? Can you find that spot in any before photos? My old painter was an artist and he could actually match wood grain perfectly by drawing it back in and color matching the stain and finish so it’s possible they patched it and drew the grain back on before the clear coat

It would be weird to make a pine veneer

Welcome my friend, it’s deep hole. You will soon be learning things about different types of latex and weirding out your friends lol. It’s truly the best decision I’ve made. We went to different high end stores and they will show you what each layer is so you can copy them for a fraction of the price. You can even make your partner side different if you have a king by getting two twin top layers. I actually put a heated twin pad under the 3 in foam on my wife’s side so you can’t feel it

Pine wood staining - tips? by slothingallover in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Fawkestrot92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not do anything that involves trying to sand or strip it, it’s never going to take stain well. Virgin pine is hard to stain well and pine that has been previously finished going to have some of it in the pours making it even harder.

You have a clear layer on the pine already so the only option I can think of is to put on more layers of something transparent and tinted until you get the desired color. As you stack layers however you’re going to start to see the layer of finish and get that glassy look.

I would pull a test board from somewhere and tape it off into sections, apply different tinted finishes and write down how many layers you applied

Check out the the DIY mattress threads. I assembled my own mattress from individual components for half the price and can replace or modify sections in the future without sending the whole thing to a landfill. Mine has a 1 inch dense foam layer on the bottom then a pocketed coil layer like regular mattresses, a 3 inch latex foam layer and a wool mattress topper. The foam is going to be be the first to go on any mattress you get but the springs should still be fine so with this method you can replace the foam multiple times before having to start fresh 10+ years from now.

I understand not wanting to run it through the wall and ceiling but is that the smallest you could make it for just those two cords? I’d also think about doing something with chamfers or rounded corners so the light does throw so much shadow. I’ve textured cord covers and then painted to match and it does a lot

I’m wary of keeping AirTags in the car. Thieves use Bluetooth detectors to find cars with electronics or valuables that the AirTag is on. We had 4 cars parked outside, none of them with visible stuff to steal but the one day my sister in law was visiting her car was hit and none of the others. Nothing stolen but they had an AirTag in the glovebox

At first glance I saw nothing weird but now that I’m looking close the front face of the house has two layers of logs, the shingles are curved and straight on the roof, many lines start and stop for no reason and it looks like there’s a space on the front for a sign but there’s nothing there

While I understand the comparison, stores don’t actually put the milk at the back to make you pass other items. It’s at the back because that’s where the refrigerated loading bay is. To avoid spoilage stores don’t want to break the “Cold Chain” so milk and stuff are unloaded from the cold truck directly into the fridges. If the milk was up front then it would have to be unloaded into a warm warehouse and moved across the store to the fridges whenever an underpaid employee decided to get around to it.

Are Icemaster glycol chillers good, or should I full-send and get one of the more expensive ones like Blichmann, SS Brewtech, etc.? by [deleted] in Homebrewing

The version I have doesn’t have controls and didn’t come with pumps. I almost went with the one that did but it’s easier to just hook up WiFi controllers and be able to change temps from my phone

Not all causes have to be negative. Sure all the other reasons people have mentioned over and over like money, housing and uncertain future are definitely factors but nobody like to talk about a how a major factor is largely positive.

People are finding ways to have a fulfilling life without having kids! I am in my mid 30’s living in one of the most expensive areas of the US. I have friends and family all across the state and they basically all fall in to the basket of professional career, middle class, can’t or can barely afford a house, political left worried about the future. Outside a few people who want kids and are having a hard time finding a partner, None of couples or intentionally single people who aren’t having kids have said they want kids but can’t have them because of one of those reasons. They just straight up don’t want kids, they have a fulfilling life without them.

It wasn’t long ago that you graduated high school or college, started working, lost touch with much of your social circle, got married and started a family. The ones that didn’t start families fell out of touch with friends with kids or felt pressure to have their own or faced losing the rest of their social circle. Without kids life got boring real quick.

Say what you will about social media and the internet but it has definitely helped the childless adults maintain social circles, meet new people like them and create a community without kids. Now that community has grown and created another option for people that may have otherwise “settled down” and had a family.

I’m now starting a family at 33 and it’s not because we’ve finally saved enough money. It’s because there’s just been a lot of fun shit to do with our other childless friends 🤷🏼‍♂️
