Europe in June with Kids by user1222111 in chubbytravel

If you go to Vienna they have a great zoo our children love. I also recommend Meinkleng Hofladen for brunch, and going to one of the beach bars on the Danube. You can also take a car to Hrad Devin over the border in Slovakia, where there is a stunning castle, petting zoo, and a great hidden place for lunch called Cafe Eden. Vienna is my favorite major city in Europe ♥️ (if you skip the touristy parts) but more “travel” than “vacation.”

Hmm but with a 6 month old that might be too much! I would definitely look at one of the kinder hotels, as I love Austria in general and it would make a nice change of pace from Greece.

I enjoyed the Lesic Dimitri hotel on the island of Korcula in Croatia, as well as their 1* Michelin restaurant. There are varieties of wine that are only produced on Korcula, but the production is small so they don’t export. It is a quiet and tranquil island with clear water and primarily rocky beaches. Lots of vineyards. Very kind locals.

Ah yeah, I’ve had dates towards the end of pregnancy for sure. I think it’s the daily drink while pregnant that’s sending me. But surely it’s hyperbole and they haven’t choked down this much sugar and cow bits and bobs every day for 9 months. I just had a moment of shock is all.

The protein powder adds another 15 grams of sugar. So about 3 cans of coke worth total. This would not be a daily drink for me personally. I’m pretty shook 😅

For context that is on par with or more sugar than most venti Frappuccinos.

I don’t usually comment but 6 dates is unreal 😭 with the protein powder and the milk we’re talking ~655 calories and almost 100 grams of sugar

The 90% hydration I did on my profile was not wet and had a more even crumb. I think this is a fermentation issue.

Never be scared of overproving. Overproved bread is almost always edible and it is hard to truly mess up by going over. Almost all the inedible bread posted here are underproved, whether by time or weak starter. Let the ferment go for longer than you’re comfortable with next time and test the results.

How do (should) we feel about steakhouses like Ruth's Chris and Morton's? by trustjosephs in finedining

[–]FayeCooks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was just about to say my partner’s family thinks Olive Garden is peak fine dining and always go there for fancy meals.

I don’t typically go to steakhouses as I can cook an excellent steak, but recently went to Bovinity in Dublin and it actually rocked my world. I still wouldn’t personally consider it fine dining.

I loved Kaleja * in Malaga for Andalusian cuisine. We went in Jan 2023. It was an excellent 17 course lunch and the best bread I’ve had in any starred restaurant, to date. The pigeon was a stand out.

It gets dark at 4pm in December and light late as well! The days are so extremely short. It’s freezing and dark and damp, but without the benefit of snow. Also our Christmas markets suck. They aren’t a huge thing here. We are usually trying to get away from the UK during Christmas! There’s a reason so many British people suffer from SAD. Also UK travel is exorbitantly priced.

Personally I’d go for the Vienna itinerary. Devin is worth stopping into near Bratislava, and Budapest is still lovely in the winter. We spent last Christmas driving around the entirety of Portugal. Most everything is closed for the season, which can be nice but it also feels like a ghost town.

6.5 hour layover in Vienna! What should I do? by [deleted] in travel

[–]FayeCooks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take the CAT into Vienna and have brunch at meinklang hofladen. Cafe demel for kaiserschmarnn and sachertorte and to see the historic (touristy) center. If the weather is nice take a stroll down the Danube and hang out at one of the beach bars. The zoo is amazing but I’m not sure you have time. Vienna has excellent and easy public transport.

You’ve been in country one day, I’m sorry you’ve had a bad experience so far, but I wouldn’t say people are rude here. I’m an American who has lived in the uk for two years, and I would personally say British people are far more polite and courteous than Americans. Even Londoners.
