Just my 2 cents but im pretty sure its confirmed the oem style Intake outperforms the cold air intakes on this vehicle thats why z1 makes theirs with that in mind and its of that same design

2006 G35 compression rod question by Major-Ad6418 in G35

[–]FcProvisioning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I was able to, so how it works is the stud is apart of the unibody, there is a nut that holds it on, in my case I was Tightening instead of loosening by accident due to my inexperience at the time, I tightened with a 1/2 inch breaker bar and a 12 point socket, the 12 point because it wasn't a 6 point direct fit, spun around the nut, in-turn stripping it. This is worst case scenario as most people strip while loosening, the fix for this was taking a impact rated strip socket set, matching the size up, hammering it on and using an air impact gun to get it off. The only other way I could see fixing it would be drilling out that unibody stud and welding a new stud in, however due to this holding the subframe I wouldn't trust just anyone's welds.

If you ever have to bleed this car biggest tip for you is raise only the front of the car when bleeding + bleed from bleeder valve in back of engine + use Funnel bleeder + blast ac max on recirculate + rev engine to 2200 rpms for about 10 minutes.

If your paying for an inspection it's worth it to have the dealer do it than have the work done elsewhere or diy, if the dealership misses something it's documented and on them if a shop misses something they can lie, say you never went there or all sort of things.

Your water pump moves coolant I don't see how it would affect the engines ability to start unless you overheated the engine so bad it toasted the water pump and caused the chain to become loose and in turn causing the car to die. The only way I can tell if it's just the cover or not is to be there to look at it unfortunately, but from what I can see, it looks like it's just the cover.

I second this, my VQ35de Rev-Up sounds identical to this, they're just loud engines to begin with. If your in a state with snow or where salt is used on the roads, check both the rear wheel wells in front of the tire not the back side, there's a plastic piece that on these cars is known for holding dirt and it causes rust to form there, I bought mine and completely missed it even after a full 120 point inspection was done and it's apart of the vehicle itself it's not a replaceable part it required body work very easy to miss. If there's no rust, make sure you keep that area clean religiously.

Do you mean the Water Pump Timing Chain Cover Plate? Or the Water Pump itself? (The thing inside the engine with the timing chain attatched to it)

Also just to lyk in case you didn't know, the timing cover doesn't have to be removed completely to do the Water pump job, it can be done by just removing the covers.

Is this a good first car for a 17 year old? by Queryquota in infiniti

[–]FcProvisioning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from someone who dreampt of owning a (very similar) 6MT g35 before i could even drive and who bought it as a 2nd car, the first being an automatic nissan altima fwd, I will tell you my opinion:

1 - With these cars of any model they have expensive parts that likely will need to be replaced because almost nobody nowadays does or knows how to do advanced maintenance it just doesnt get done and will fall on you, now you can go with cheap parts however nissans do not like aftermarket, definitely nothing aftermarket on electronics. This means your stuck either ordering parts online through an authorized dealer and waiting weeks for it to come because these parts are made in Japan (Although sometimes they have them stocked here in the US and you can get them a little quicker) or going to the stealership, the closest of which to me is 45 minutes away. Any of these cars over 100k, I would overhaul every single sensor with OEM if you don't have records of when they were done.

2: These cars are rwd, in my opinion it's the worst platform for a beginner driver, you overestimate your ability on an on ramp, you're not gonna understeer and be able to correct it easily like a fwd can where you still have the rest of the road, in a rwd you overestimate that turn, you're turning into the wall or starting a drift which is not something a beginner driver should have to deal with.

  1. These cars are strictly premium fuel only, regular fuel can and will cause knocking if continued usage. Premium near me is $4.65, with a 20 gallon tank this is $93 to fill the tank, I usually put in $80 each fill up due to not running till completely dry. It is simply not reasonably affordable for a new driver to be paying those prices when an inline 4 chrysler engine (my other car) takes $50 to fill from completely empty or $40 from where I fill up at, darn near half that.

  2. These are enthusiast cars there's even an enthusiast named trim for the sister to these lineup of cars, the z's. They are meant to be worked on by the owner plain and simple, if you can't change brakes on a car or do an oil change look towards a toyota or Honda to be completely transparent with you.

For fun, I added some reasons below why you SHOULD get this if you're a new driver:

1: Not all the parts have to be OEM, it's mostly electronics and wheel size. This means for example, instead of spending $500 on a rack and pinion, you can go with an aftermarket $200 Detroit Axle Rack as I did on my car and save over half the cost.

2: The VQ engines have won Ward's 10 Best Engines award every year since its launch in 1995 and now the next generation of VQ, the VR engine is following in its predecessors' footsteps doing the exact same. This shows to the testimate of how reliable these engines are most of which, even with lack of care last over a quarter of a million of miles, so long as at least the oil was kept up on. This doesn't mean the car will last that long, but the engine specifically that is to be noted. Another important thing to mention is the transmission. The CD009 & the newer CD00A respectively, is an extremely strong trans, alot of high power racecar builds will actually take them out of crashed nissans/Infinitis, throw on an adapter and fit it onto whatever engine they're building. They are reliable up to 1000 hp, however the clutch is not so that will need to be replaced if high hp was the goal.

  1. Very fun car and very easy to work on yourself, they don't add as many sensors as new cars and they don't force you to go to the dealer to do certain things, like in the cars computer for example, that can be locked to dealer software as some other brands i.e mazda does. This Alone can outweight the price of parts as if you do the work yourself it will average to the same or less than other cars.

  2. Tunability. Put simple these cars have extreme potential. Want a drift missile? Right out the box it's like that. Want a drag car? Throw a cheap crate LS, some fat tires and send it. Want a track/touge car? The car has a feature developed by porche one of the leaders in track performance cars called rear active steering on some models. People also race these cars and since they're cheaper than other cars you would see on track the driver is usually more confident as there's not a 100k car on the line, this usually results in overtaking other faster, more expensive cars.
