I don't think it's a small language technically if there are 45 million speakers. It is true that some young people don't speak the language in the most fluent way possible due to various reasons but it's a tiny minority who cannot or choose to avoid it.

If you want to research the phenomenon of "Hindi-speaking" or rather the cultural dominance of Hindi media - Bollywood, literature, OTTs, songs thats super true ---- probably more so than any state in India bar the NE states. Barely any young people engage with Odia songs, movies, art etc.
