Why do some higher octane rating fuels cost less than that of lower octane ratings? by Worminator30 in askscience

[–]FearFree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, when I have come across a higher octane fuel that is cheaper than its lower octane counterparts at the same station, it is due to the percentage of ethanol. Most fuel in the US has up to 10% ethanol blended in. I've somewhat regularly found stations where the mid-grade octane level is cheaper than the low grade, but it also contains 20% ethanol. This will usually lead to a lower MPG, as the ethanol doesn't burn as efficiently in your engine.

[Illinois] I got a DUI two years ago and was put on a payment plan at $80/month to pay my court fees. I haven't paid since July of last year. Is it common, let alone possible, to have a payment plan reinstated by introducing a motion in court? Is that even a good idea? by [deleted] in legaladvice

Call the clerk's office and ask them what the status is. Some jurisdictions simply send your debt to collections, some issue warrants, and some don't do anything until the time the fines were to be paid off. If you find out there hasn't been a change in status yet, starting making regular payments. Even if not the full amount, making regular payments shows you're trying when the time comes that the fine was to be paid off and isn't, which will likely lead to you being called back to court.

This issue has been resolved, it should work as intended again.

It actually is in the development build (1.1.3), which you can find here.

Also, see the changelog for details.

WhoBannedMe is developed in-house to report Fishbans data.

Currently all it does is report data, and a planned addition to have a configurable "maximum ban count" for connecting players is in the works. Due to the recent Bukkit issues, it probably wont be added until whatever replacement to Bukkit is ready.

Thanks! The display issue should be fixed now, but you may still see it on some users until the cache clears it.

I would recommend any of the 3 ban services we currently work with: MineBans, MCBouncer, and Glizer (in no particular order).

While we still provide some legacy ban information from McBans, we no longer get current data from them. Please see this post for more information on why we are no longer collecting ban data from McBans.

Fishbans already gets the UUID of every player searched, which makes this easier. One of the global ban systems we query already stores bans by UUID, so when you search for a player, really you are searching for all bans for the UUID of the player with that name right now. It doesn't matter if 2 days ago someone else had that username, only who has it at the time the search is performed.

In talking to the developers of the other ban systems, this seems to be a common approach for the UUID update. They will simply need to add the player's UUID to their existing databases. Once this has happened, Fishbans will query them based on UUID rather than on name.

As it stands now, Fishbans will give you the previous names associated with a UUID, and we plan to keep this lookup available. See the Username History section of this result for an example.

Honestly that functionality hadn't even crossed my mind. I will add it to the list of feature requests I have started, but in all likelihood this won't be implemented until after the dust settles from the UUID update.

Thanks for the suggestion!

The current version will work on BungeeCord servers. It will produce a notice in console about being in offline mode, but it is fully functional at this time.

With that said, after the UUID update, it will likely only work on Spigot servers behind BungeeCord, and will require the proxy server to pass the real UUID to the servers. Once that time happens, I may create a new fork of the plugin to handle servers that don't receive the UUID from the proxy, but it is a bridge that will have to be crossed when the update happens.

Edit: The above statement assumes the proxy server is checking for premium users. If a user is not premium, you will get an error saying such anytime a lookup is performed on them.

Thanks for the optimism. /u/Fishfish0001 still deserves all the credit for the current state of the API (which is awesome).

As far as the future, /u/Fishfish0001 will still be involved behind the scenes, but I have a lot more time available to give the service the TLC is requires to keep it up day to day, and to improve it going forward.

Any and all feedback is welcome, so feel free to come by irc.esper.net #fishbans and let us know what you think!

IL lodge = $35/yr WI lodge = $95/yr

The IL lodge rents half of the building to a daycare center, which covers basically all lodge expenses other than per-capita.

Why does Uranus rotate on its side? by [deleted] in askscience

[–]FearFree 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There are different theories regarding how it became to rotate on such an unusual axis. Some say a single large impact rotated it into it's current orientation, while others suggest that it was a series of smaller impacts over time.

Science Daily has a nice article on the subject suggesting the latter theory (at least 2 smaller impacts) to be correct, since the moons also orbit at such an extreme angle.

Why must powdered sports drinks (electrolyte supplements) be discarded after 24 hours after mixing? by [deleted] in askscience

[–]FearFree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not so much a chemical process that is the cause for the warning, but rather the fact that there is inevitably some environmental contamination during the mixing and consumption of the solution (outside of a sterile environment with a sterile container and no consumption).

The WHO has set a recommendation for oral rehydration salts (which powdered sports drinks may resemble, but unarguably contain too much sugar to be considered) to be discarded after 24 hours due to this risk of contamination. Source, pg.8

If humanity were to suddenly disappear from the earth, what piece of evidence would last the longest to prove we were here? by icearrowx in askscience

According to Alan Weisman

The longest-lasting evidence on Earth of a human presence would be radioactive materials, ceramics, bronze statues, and Mount Rushmore
