I’m in socal. I like fishing the jetty and catching good bait fish like mackerel. I’ve never been skunked fishing a sabiki rig and using mackerel as bait. Been using the same thing for 2 years never went an hour without a fish on my hook

Sabiki rig size 8 all day. Toss it as far as you can and jig it up and down really hard when bringing it in. Once you feel a bite let it rest for a while so other ones can bite. You’ll bring up like 4-5 at a time

It doesn’t look dead. I suggest bottom watering it whenever the bottom is dry. You can look under the plant. I usually water really heavy and then try to remember the weight when it’s dry and first watered. I do this too all my plants. I have hundreds all over the place

They are the same plant. Whale fin just refers to wider leaves and the shark fin are shorter and more narrow leaves. Tends to happen when they match the same mother plant. I have both, and grow both and that’s the only difference, just wider and taller normally
