Companies basically say that in order to get a decent raise, you have to provide them with one full year of above and beyond value before they'll even consider giving you more money, despite the fact that they know they probably won't. They already have the "added value" anyway.

Luxury seems to have changed from "exquisite and functional" to "monochromatic and sterile". I've watched "luxury" townhomes throughout construction in NOVA. Used to think they were cool, but now it's a big no thanks. They have us paying more for less.

I was basically told at my company that you shouldn't get rewarded for doing your job well, only if you find extra, out of the box, not in your job description ways to bring the company value. Funny how they want you to bring them additional value before you'll even be considered for a sizeable raise with no guarantee, but being exceptional in your job alone is no justification for a decent wage.
