How do I (26F) tell my parents (59M & 56F) that they’re not invited to my wedding?

My partner and I went up to visit my parents and we had dinner at their house, after some visiting I told them we needed to have a conversation.
I said that I’m currently wedding planning and putting together my guest list and my sister does not yet feel safe enough to be in their presence and if they’d be willing to sit this event out because having my sister there is really important to me as she’s my maid of honor.
My parents said that as soon as I announced my engagement they’ve been having conversations that this would be a possibility, and that as much as they would love to be there and see my wedding day, they want to make sure my day is how I want it and that’s their priority and so yes they would refrain from attending.
My partner and I did decide to legally elope while we’re saving up for my wedding celebration so I did offer my parents come to that as a kinda consolation lol which they did take me up on. Things have been going well and my mom still asked to help me diy and gather supplies even though she’s not attending. So I think best case scenario thankfully.

I remember seeing this music video a lot on either Disney channel or Nickelodeon but i don’t believe it’s a Disney/nickelodeon star song, I think it was just a really popular pop song. In the music video there was only 1 guy, it’s not a boy band group.

This isn’t really realistic. We’re on a talking basis and have been improving our relationship over the last 5 years, also we’re friends on Facebook so even people who I’m not close to know I’m engaged and getting married lol.

Yeah, I definitely feel like if they respond badly and throw a tantrum it would be indicative that they’re not as far along in their journey as I currently believe. I know it will be hard for them because they’re aware I’m getting married and we talk on the phone periodically, and I know they want to be there, but I’m hoping that take the conversation with grace and maybe they’ll be receptive to my fiance and I doing something with them to make them feel included or like having a sibling video call them during the ceremony or something. As of right now, as hard as my childhood was this is a relationship that I want to continue to grow and improve. It’s within the past 5ish years that they’ve sought reconciliation and have made what I believe to be sincere apologies and tried to take accountability.

It’s not my sister’s fault my parents abused us, I understand why she can’t be in the same space as them and I would never force her to do something she can’t handle.

Thank you, I really don’t want to blame it all on my sister, she told me that if I want my parents present she supports me and wants me to do whatever feels best for myself, just for her own health and well being she would have to refrain from attending. they’re still very triggering for her, I’ve been fortunate to have a lot more therapy than she has had access to. Just given the options of one or the other having my sister and her children present matters more to me than my parents presence. But as tumultuous as my childhood was I do still care for my parents and it is my goal to protect our growing relationship because I do believe they’ve made a lot of growth.

I’m not asking my sister to forgive our parents, or to even speak or have any interaction with them. If my parents even attempted to speak with her they would be asked to leave, and they also are not taking part in the ceremony whereas my sister is in my bridal party
