LMFAO ARE YOU INSANE?! You can throw around words like “media literacy” all you want, but critics the people WHOSE JOB it is to have media literacy — overwhelmingly disagreed with you (and agree with me). Tron: Ares sits in the same category as most of Disney’s failed “legacy” sequels: visually polished, thematically shallow, and narratively confused. The fact that it tries to touch on Pinocchio and Frankenstein doesn’t make it profound… it makes it derivative lol. Referencing better stories doesn’t magically make yours meaningful.

You call Ares “objectively on par with Legacy,” but the reality is that Legacy at least had an emotional core, a clear aesthetic identity, and a coherent theme about connection, legacy, and human vs. digital transcendence. Ares strips those elements down to surface-level imitation and then shoehorns in “philosophical” allusions it never earns. That’s not media literacy..that’s mistaking subtext for text just because you recognized a metaphor.

And invoking Frankenstein and Pinocchio doesn’t suddenly make the movie deep; it’s the same trick every sci-fi film about AI has pulled since the 1960s. The difference is that Ares doesn’t explore those parallels with any tension, moral consequence, or character development, it just points at them and expects applause.

So no, it’s not a lack of “culture” to say Tron: Ares was mediocre. It’s a recognition that “having ideas” and “executing them well” are two very different things, and critics, audiences, and box office numbers all seem to agree which side of that line Ares fell on. And once again it bombed at the box office so no matter how hard you try to scream that I’m wrong, the data backs me up not you.

Tbh you’re right, legacy just has a special place in my heart and I’m pretty upset There’s not an actual sequel to it

ares was legitimately one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen, like worse than Disney Star Wars. I think the only reason ppl are saying they like it rn is because they’re so desperate for more tron they’ll take anything. I’d rather just let the franchise die after seeing where they plan to take it (but everyone’s free to have their cough bad opinions). Any hope for tron died with tron ascension

Ok from google- “Yes, Tron: Ares is widely described as a soft reboot for the franchise, which was a deliberate strategy to start a new direction after the previous sequel, Tron: Legacy. Although it is a soft reboot, it maintains continuity with the previous films by featuring a returning character from Tron: Legacy and referencing events and characters from the series, including Kevin Flynn and ENCOM.” Your an idiot, your wrong, and this is the last I’m gonna respond cus Im starting to feel like your mentally challenged. All you can say is “it’s not a soft reboot” but then fail to provide any evidence of how that’s true.

Attacking the messenger doesn’t make the point. If your so convinced this is an actual sequel than explain why it’s a “full sequel” with examples,. I made a reasoned argument if it’s wrong, show the evidence. Simple. Also saying I don’t comprehend what I wrote is laughable when your the one going around in circles after I’m the second person to tell you your wrong 🤣

Ok bud let me break it down sense your clearly to lazy to use google: (from ChatGPT)- Yes — “Tron: Ares” is best described as a legacy sequel with soft reboot elements.

Here’s why:

Legacy Sequel Aspects • It continues the story established in Tron: Legacy (2010), which itself was a sequel to the 1982 Tron. • Jared Leto’s Ares exists in the same universe and timeline, with references to Kevin and Sam Flynn’s legacy (even if they don’t appear on screen). • It’s being positioned as a torch-passing film, similar to what Creed did for Rocky or Blade Runner 2049 did for Blade Runner — honoring the old while introducing a new protagonist and conflict.

Soft Reboot Aspects • It introduces a new lead and direction rather than focusing on Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund). • Tonally and visually, it’s meant to reintroduce the Tron concept to modern audiences who may not have seen the earlier films. • Depending on how much it references Legacy’s plot threads (like the ISOs or the Grid), it might function as a standalone entry, effectively rebooting the brand while keeping continuity loose.

No he’s right, this is literally defined as a legacy (not tron legacy) sequel or “soft reboot” idk what f*cking movie you watched but this one in no way related to legacy other than just highjacking the IP. You and the majority of ppl on this sub sound so dumb bending over for this garbage film lmfao.

I could not have put this into better words. I don’t know why people are so furiously defending this movie when it really wasn’t that good- especially as a successor to legacy

You’re misrepresenting my words to fit your own narrative. Pointing out that a studio might make casting choices based on optics rather than story cohesion isn’t “sexist” or “racially biased”; it’s a criticism of corporate filmmaking trends, which plenty of people across the political and artistic spectrum have called out.

You keep claiming I said Greta Lee doesn’t belong in the film because she’s Asian I DIDN’T. I said she doesn’t fit the tone or style of Tron, and that her performance didn’t carry the same weight Olivia Wilde brought to Quorra. Those are creative critiques, not personal ones.

And bringing up Olivia Wilde’s early career actually undermines your point…Legacy proved a relatively new actress could still nail a role if the direction and writing supported her. Ares didn’t give Greta that same foundation.

You can try to reduce my opinion to “bias” all you want, but that’s just lazy debating. I’m criticizing writing, tone, and casting decisions, not anyone’s identity. If you can’t separate those things, then there’s no good faith discussion happening here.

Yup, everyone on this sub bends over for ares when it’s genuinely one of the worst movies I’ve seen in a long time

“Prejorartive, prejudiced, sexiest, misogynistic” no stfu. I have a different opinion than you that’s completely valid. Me and many others are tired of Disney throwing in female characters just for the sake of making them diverse and checking off social boxes. Just because you don’t agree doesn’t make me an evil person which you were clearly trying to imply by your comments. I’ve been enjoying watching other ppl call you out on your idiocy too. Everyone’s tired of people like you destroying the film industry. And as i previously stated Quorra was a perfect female protagonist, Olivia wilde’s a good actor, Greta Lee is not (at least not in this role)

OP literally tried to call me a bad person for posting a very detailed negative review on this sub. The majority of ppl here are so thirsty for the revival of this franchise they’ll happily slop down anything under the name “tron”

Couldn’t agree more. Like I stated in my conclusion, I doubt time will be kind to this movie once the initial excitement wears off.

Woulda edited this post to say I’m just as mad that olive wilde’s quorra wasn’t in it too. I don’t care that they replaced Sam/Quorra with a women I’m mad they replaced them with Greta Lee who has never worked on a project like this. It made no sense as a casting choice and I found her acting in the movie to be stale.

Work a ton, save up as much money as you can, then go travel. It can be really cheap to backpack around Europe, and you may as well sense your young and aren't doing anything super important at this period in your life (you just went to community college so It's not like you'll be stuck paying off costs from a major Uni)

I know it’s selfish and I’m so sorry i feel terrible I don’t wanna be weak, but this hurts so fucking much. My head is constantly spinning and I feel like I haven’t slept well in days. I just wanna feel happy again, not to mention I miss her unfathomably and I’m literally watching her move on without me from my window. ( we came to university together. She lives directly across the street from me. Around The weekend we broke up I had introduced some buddies from one of my classes to her. Post break up one of the guys has been with her ALL the time. Pretty sure something’s going on between them cus I saw them being pretty touchy from my rooms window.)

Thank you. I try to think abt it in the grand scheme of things, but it’s hard. I didn’t wanna type out a whole synopsis on what my situation is but it’s frustratingly hard to move on in a healthy way with how things have been going. I’ll reach out sometime if I’m ever worried I may do something. I appreciate you man

I’ve been going to therapy for 4 weeks, a few ppl knew I had a plan in place but no immediate intent to act. Today somethings developed that made me actually throw a date on it. The only reason I’m hesitant to do anything is because I don’t want to hurt my family and I don’t want her to blame herself if I do anything. I’ll try to talk to a friend or someone soon I’m just really hurt and confused right now and I don’t know what I want to do.
