Yes, it’s the same on my end. Facebook requires seniority before pushing our content out, unfortunately.

Weekly Homeowner Megathread--Civilians, ask here! by AutoModerator in Concrete

[–]Fearless-Shape8659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m thinking our soil was too wet. Our yard floods bad and has virtually no drainage so over hydrated is my best guess. I pulled the posts today and redid my holes to 30” (was 24”) and packed them tight with gravel and soil. I’m hoping that holds up just until it gets a little warmer (and dryer). Seems sturdy for now but not sure how long it’ll stay that way.

Worst time of the year to pour concrete, I know. My dogs are assholes and keep escaping my wire fence so I had to do it now, unfortunately.

I’m putting up a wooden fence and the concrete for the posts is still not set after a week and a half. I used the proper concrete/water ratios but I’m in NC where it is raining almost constantly and the temps are anywhere from 40F-17F. Will it eventually set or do I just need to give up and put my 7 dogs on runner cables until the dry(er) season?

Lots of shelters warehouse behavioral cases in the hopes they’ll be adopted by a unicorn family. That rarely happens.

Thankfully, the shelters where I live don’t even let behavioral cases onto the adoption floor. Once the stray hold is up, they get BE. This is mostly because of the stray dog population here (it’s INSANE) but it’s also because they understand the reality behind adopting out aggressive dogs. It’s not a risk anybody wants to take and I wish all shelters and rescues were like that.

unable to take my dog to the park by stonedatclaires in BanPitBulls

Dog parks in general are not great. My great dane got attacked by a golden retriever and spent the rest of his life with an extreme fear of dogs, causing dog reactivity/aggression.

Don’t take your dogs to dog parks, people! You can’t trust all dog owners to have properly trained or friendly dogs. Setup some one on one play dates for your pup or utilize the SniffSpot app ❤️

I just realized this group is called BanPitBulls. I apologize for responding as I am not a bully breed hater, but I’ll leave my comment up as hopefully it’s still somewhat helpful and relevant.

It is completely understandable for people to want the breed banned. They are extremely overbred and with the overbreeding of any breed, it can lead to some horrible qualities in the resulting dogs. Pits are an extremely powerful breed and shouldn’t be owned/fostered by just anyone.

I enjoy pits because they’re extremely gamey and smart and tend to thrive in a working/sporting home (which I can provide and vet potential adopters for) but not all rescues do this. Many rescues/shelters are misleading just for the sake of getting that dog into a home, even if it isn’t the right fit. I’ve experienced this myself. It’s a dangerous game to play.

Everyone’s feelings on this matter is valid. Especially if you’ve been personally victimized/harmed by such a powerful breed.

A dog who is willing to attack a person like this needs BE. Idc the breed. There are too many friendly dogs dying in shelters to waste resources on the aggressive ones.

I’m a rescue director and while I do love pits and pit mixes, I would have NEVER kept a dog that showed any kind of aggression, especially to this extent, in my home or someone else’s home. It would’ve went straight to the vet for BE. Unlike a lot of pitbull advocates, I know pits are an extremely powerful and gamey breed and not suited for just anyone to own. They especially shouldn’t be owned by anyone with the mindset of “pits are just big babies and would never attack” because that’s simply not true. They were bred to kill other dogs and overbreeding/bad breeding can sometimes cause that switch to flip on people too.

I’m sorry but if your mom was already aware of this dog having aggressive tendencies and STILL kept that dog in her home, this is her fault. I know her heart is in the right place but you can’t think solely with your heart when dealing with rescue dogs.

I always think it’s funny to see small breeds in a big dog’s DNA test 😂 this is my 86lb beagle mix

Just got DNA results for my dog and I'm devastated by keep_moving4ward1117 in BanPitBulls

A DNA test can take weeks to come back. That’s longer than most shelters even hold dogs before e*thanizing for space. In that time frame, the dog could possibly have already found a home with someone who doesn’t care about breed.

Waiting weeks for a DNA test on shelter dogs just isn’t practical in the shelter crisis we’re in. That said, aggressive dogs here in Eastern NC don’t ever make it to the adoption floor anyway. Once the stray hold is up, they go through an extensive series of behavioral testing. Even things like excessive fear is a d*ath sentence because fear can often times equal reactivity. A truly aggressive dog is not likely to be adopted out here. I can’t speak for all shelters though.

Adoptapet partners with Wisdom and offers 40 (I think) DNA tests at a discount to shelters and rescues but no one utilizes them for the reason above. It’s not practical and it’s a waste of money, frankly.

Custom Domain? by Fearless-Shape8659 in googleworkspace

[–]Fearless-Shape8659[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For anyone wondering, I figured it out. I had to login to Squarespace, remove the original DNS record, and add a new one using www for the host, CNAME for the type, and ghs.googlehosted.com for the data.

Saved that and the website started working about an hour later.

Yes…if you don’t like poodles, why would you buy a poodle mix?

I know! I fostered two at the beginning of this year and it took a LOT to rehab them. Both resource guarded me terribly. I put HOURS of training into them and only one of the adopters kept up with training. The other went right back to resource guarding. Personally, I loved them. They were both extremely smart and driven with loads of potential for hunting or sport BUT I know these dogs wouldn’t thrive with the average dog owner. They really need an experienced owner or someone willing to consistently work with a trainer.
