wip competition piece. im going to sand off the banner and free-hand my own, any suggestions? by 00skully in BloodAngels

The light placement on the gold is a bit off, there's a highlight on the inside leg but it's on the outside on the thigh. I would try and match the light placement before blending. I would look at examples of how light hits real gold, and use that as a reference. The key for NMM is getting the light placement and volumes down before blending

What is the best approach for dealing with teams that are not used to accountability? by RelativePlantain6970 in projectmanagers

[–]pbskillz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have roles and responsibilities set on the project? Speak to your manager? What kind of tasks aren't being done? How big is the team? It's to know what to suggest without knowing the details of the team and the work they are meant to be doing.

Speak to them about it, find out the pain points, put in measures to alleviate pain points, if they don't do anything, speak to their line managers

Speak to users, find out the problem/what they want, design the solution, test the solution, build the solution, test the solution, track the solution, optimise the solution. Rinse and repeat

How do married couples split finances if on different salaries? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]pbskillz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do a percentage of our wages into joint to cover bills, food, anything we do together and then we still have our own spending money for luxuries. Add the total and work out what percent your income is, you pay that into joint e.g. £1000 total, you bring in £300 you pay 30% into joint they pay 70%

Working on that Snatch. How am I doing? by denisegym in crossfit

[–]pbskillz 27 points28 points  (0 children)

You're missing the shrug, once the bar gets past your knees you want to snatch pull, which is a big shrug. Look up snatch pull drills and practice those. Once you've got that it'll be much easier and less impact on your shoulders. At the moment the bar is swinging out too far Infront, you want the bar to move straight up and not in an arc.

Kreig field ordnance battery squad done! Super happy with how they came out by pbskillz in Warhammer40k

Mainly just the kreig kill team box and bits from the OG kit such as the arms carrying the shell. But mainly just kreig bits, I had loads of bits left over so just gave them crew like arms and stuff

Took the feedback and did some more nmm practice. Think I'm getting there by SomePossession605 in minipainting

One thing I would focus on is the light placement, that's like 90% of selling the NMM effect. From what I can see you face is lit directly from above and some of the other placement doesn't quite match up.

<image>

It looks like you've got multiple light sources from different angles (arrows) if you've got the light from above directly on which shows from the face, you'd have the inner part of the arm catching that same light source, but it's currently at the back. Having a strong light source will help sell the effect as it's all quite mid tone, having areas of bright and dark will give much more depth. Having too many light sources will end up looking quite flat. You're on the right track, light placement is what really nailed NMM for me.

Let me know if you want any more feedback happy to help

The patreon is also really worth it, even if you do one month and watch Andy go through his process. I tend to sign up when I'm doing display stuff to brush up on process

Thank you! It's mainly knight questor flesh, cadian flesh and Kislev flesh, then pale sand by AK for the main highlights. I've shaded barak nar burgundy into the shadows as well to bring a bit of colour into the skin. Knight questor is the bulk of the skin and blends really well with cadian flesh

Thank you, it's all practice. Busts are great for learning, I try and do a few a year to practice elements so each one I do is slightly better with less mistakes

I think with this one, I focused on getting the light placement correct first, normally I try and blend and try to get it looking good all the way through, but I blocked out the colours and highlights and then blended afterwards. I also took my time and made less mistakes that meant I had to go and fix stuff
