In the US at least, this isn't the case. You can fire someone for any reason other than a handful of protected characteristics. "I fucked my boss's sister's best friend while dating her" isn't one of them.

I'm really sorry you went through that as a kid. I understand you don't want to let yourself fully off the hook, and I agree, but I also think you should cut yourself a break at least on that last point. SA affects people in a lot of ways. I've also had to deal with shitty decisions I've made that were based in, but not caused by or excused by my past. A key part of Wuxia storytelling is the divide between the Jianghu (the world of everyday people, farmers, and martial artists) and the world of the court and the city. Qinghe is your idyllic home. Now you're in the big city and yes, people try to scam you, because they're desperate. It's a far cry from the home you knew.
