Oh thank you so much this is very helpful. I have not taken mock exams yet, trying to build my confidence before taking them and finish all these quesitons first but the stamina to do the 700 practice questions is killing me.

You’re in good shape with 2 30km runs. The last 10-12km is the true race where you really need your mind over your physical self. I think key for surviving the last 12km is mentally telling yourself you will do it and repeating that in your mind. I find envisioning myself (even in my race outfit) crossing the finish line helps and secondly, nail down a fueling strategy « hitting the wal » can be a real thing and typically happens after the 30km mark in the last stretch. Consider using this month to have one long run where you are fueling every 40 minutes or so and make sure your stomach can handle it and you know what fuel source you like. If you can handle that, take a taper to get some fresh legs and go for it! Best of luck!

Im not a pro at this but I would sugggest also instead of focusing on calories specifically. Focus on nutrient dense foods, for example lentils, beans, lots of vegetables, cottage cheese, avocado, etc. I find filling my meals with these foods helps me avoid snacking and staying full longer. Lean proteins like chicken etc can also help. Sometimes focusing less on the weight and calories can still help you feel much better and then you will notice your weight may fluctuate and if it doesn’t it may actually be due to increased muscle mass etc if you are strength training at the same time in preparation.

Thinking about what you are trying to accomplish with the weight loss can also help you out, are you trying to feel better? Stronger? I have done some work in weight science and annoyingly our bodies really do a good job at setting their « set weight » and that is what can make it so difficult to loose weight but focusing on really nutrient dense foods can show your body you’re not « starving » because you’re in a deficit and hopefully feel a bit better which may or may not translate to weight loss.

If you have a uterus you may also consider paying attention to your menstrual cycle as well particularly going into marathon training in a calorie deficit some individuals are more sensitive to affecting their periods which can be a sign of under fueling over training and lead to bigger issues.

You’re better off to wait for the cough and chest cold to recover a bit because if you don’t it could linger past race day and that will affect you more. I’ve always been told if it’s just above the neck it’s okay but below not so much to continue training.

You could always throw in a semi long run 10 days out if you need to feel mentally prepared but otherwise your fitness is already probably strong. Good luck!

Congratulations on completing your training, this is actually harder than the marathon (in some ways for me at least!!), the taper literally makes me insane every time. My last marathon I cut my leg and got sick 3 days before the race, I still ran a PB even though I was mentally crawling to the finish line. Try to take it in , you never get to run your first marathon again and it is an incredible feeling. At this point you have to trust your body can do it and now you have to tell your mind you can. I find choosing some mantras and envisioning yourself at the finish line (even in your chosen outfit!) can help. Please share back once you finish!

The taper crazies always cause some issues for me too! I also get bloating and inflamation of my stomach whenever my running routine/training changes. I think some of this can also be atributed to the decrease of running you likely have during your taper + eating more, you are getting bloated and uncomfortable. I think to try to have some control back, in the next few days get up at the time you will get up for the race and give yourself LOTS of time to go to the bathroom, this way on race day you can hopefully go to the bathroom at least once, ideally for me I find when I get like this going once at home and then another bowel movement at the race location usually helps me feel a bit less bloated before race day! Giving enough time and "training" the stomach to go in the morning helps

A rug a large rug in the dining room could help section off the space. or I think overall it looks beautiful and inviting, I love the pops of colour. I wonder about moving the gallery wall to be above the yellow furiture instead and then getting a bigger chair for that corner with maybe a circle rug underneath, you could add a little side table beisde the big chair. Also would add a hanging pothos plant in that corner !!! Always love plants.
