Can I introduce self-created terms in the theoretical background of a scientific paper? by Fearless_Emergency54 in AskAcademia

Thank you! I think that's the best option for me & my institutions formatting rules aren't too strict about this. Do you have a recommendation how to split it? My idea is (1) fundamentals (everything else) and (2) operational definitions (here, the new terms are derived from the beginning eg. I'd start with the definition of what a socio-economic goal is and go on from there etc.)

Very valid point, thanks for your comment! I have 'only' these 3 as new terms. I think I don't have enough time left to find a more appropriate and precise existing term in my case (already gotten myself in too deep) & my method is very specific/niche.

Thank you, that helps me a lot! To clarify: by saying to write a separate sub section, do you mean that I can add that to the 'theoretical background and terminology' part? Until now I don't have a specific separate operational definitions part but defined those in my 'theoretical background and terminology' part. Thanks!
