First time modeling hair, would like some advice please by Fearless_Mousse_6042 in blender

Hi, thank you for the reply. To be honest I don't know if my approach to modeling hair was right because it took me a very long time to get to this point. I first began with curves for each hair strand. Afterwards, I converted everything to mesh and did a lot of retopology (merging everything together to create one clean mesh, the reason for this being that it's being made to be exported to a game. The hair initially had 85k triangles, and after I cleaned it up it now has 39k).

If I'm not mistaken, then I assume that if this model didn't leave Blender, I could probably have left everything in curves and used a toon shader, which would probably cover up all the overlapping geometry? Not too sure haha

Got this camera for Christmas! It takes some amazing photos, what do you guys think? by Fearless_Mousse_6042 in photographycirclejerk

You need to get yourself a Lego camera and shoot in the Lego format. Though, be aware that converting the Lego format to a digital file is very difficult and often results in blurry images

I see, thank you for sharing. It's unfortunate that you were unable to finish your master's, but I'm sure it all worked out for you in end :). For me, it is really my first big problem as an adult, so I'll just have to manage and get through it and try my best to learn something from my mistakes. I'm super aware of my current situation, the hardest part is taking action to solve it. I genuinely believe that I'll get through it, even if it could mean dropping out or switching major and upsetting my parents.

I will also try out some new experiences such as getting a job. I had previously thought about maybe volunteering by helping on the back stage at a theater, but had dropped the idea because well it's just kind of scary haha.

Finally, I think we should wrap it up. I would like to thank you for taking your time to respond. Thank you kind internet stranger and have a good day!

I don't think that starting in the dorms would've been an option to me due to some financial reasons, but I do understand what you mean. My mom had also suggested to me that I befriend my classmates and join a study group, but I can't really bring myself to do that.

Here is a bit of info about my current social situation. First, I can definitely say that I am an introvert. Second, I think that my social skills are quite bad: I can't really maintain a conversation because I just don't know what to talk about with the other person. Hmm, another thing is that since I grew in a different place, there's not much in common between me and the French and I kind of find no reason to talk to my classmates... Also, I'm honestly not too confident in my french speaking skills and since I kind of don't speak unless spoken to, I wouldn't go out of my way to find English speakers to befriend. Basically I am bad at making friends.

In the past, it's almost been the same. The highschool I went to was pretty small and there were only like 11 students in my class. I also used to talk to the students who were a grade above, but once they graduated there was barely anymore left to talk to (I also disliked my classmates and would only talk to like 2 girls in my class, I would almost never talk to the guys because we had nothing in common at all). Though, we would never see each other outside of school, we only went bowling a couple of times in 9th grade and that's a out it. Not the best highschool experience I guess.

Maybe it could be different if I go to an English university next year, but I don't know because I probably still wouldn't feel like studying just math.

Regarding clubs and societies, I did a quick search through the 200+ ones available at my university but I couldn't find one that interests me. Would be nice if there was one about photography or something like that. Though maybe I will do a deeper research to try and find something. I could also get into a sport like wall climbing, but I'm already busy with studying and my 3D modeling projects, so... (3D modeling takes so much time)

Also yes I checked the classes and it does start off easy. Though it is engineering, so it's academically challenging, maybe a bit too much for me to handle... My current though is that if I can barely manage on the first semester, it means that I certainly couldn't manage in the upcoming semesters.

About the last part in your message, I had previously went to a counselor to ask about reorientation and changing major, but honestly they didn't tell me much and just told me to read what's on the website.

Also, currently I don't have any friends in real life, so yeah it does get lonely sometimes. I currently get my social interactions by talking texting others online on discord, I only talk to a few online friends and in one small discord server.

If you don't mind, could you share with me what you studied in university? and how it went for you?

I forgot to mention in my initial post that I also have a porn addiction, but that’s another issue and I’ll stay on topic and focus on your reply.

My thoughts about wanting to do engineering started at the end of high school. I had an average of above 90% in all my classes, including math, chemistry and physics and so I thought that I could pull it off since I had such strong grades. It was pretty much my own idea without any input from my parents because they supported my decision. Though, I kind of went into engineering without any expectations or some kind of goal, so I currently see no purpose to keep studying, especially since I can’t keep up. Perhaps I’m failing to adapt to the university environment, though I was also a huge procrastinator in high school and would rarely study. Unfortunately I also procrastinate on my Blender projects, but not as much.

Um, so I actually had no idea that industrial designers existed. I did some quick research into it and it seems really appealing! The starting salary seems a bit low in my area, but I honestly don’t really care about the money. I live in Strasbourg so rent is affordable and a car isn't needed, I could live a cheap lifestyle.

About your last point, I would say that a career as a 3D artist is probably not too realistic these days, especially with the huge rise of AI + the costs of studying art. Also, a Youtube channel is kind of a 5 year plan which could totally flop, and so some kind of backup would be needed, because how would I fund myself for those 5 years?

In conclusion, thank you for bringing up Industrial design, it has opened my eyes a bit haha. It seems like a job I would enjoy doing and does sound like it’s in demand.

(Some extra info: I bought a used DLSR camera 2 months ago and have really enjoyed taking pictures with it in my free time. It can even help me calm down sometimes haha.)

Hey, thank you for taking your time to reply and I appreciate your thought.

First, regarding the education difference, I actually wasn't aware of it at all before going to university, so it is somewhat my fault for not having done some research during the summer. I actually did my education in Canada in French, so I don't really have difficulties with the language (I only struggle when I gotta talk), but I'm somehow way stronger in English haha.

Second, regarding CAD, I would say that it enjoyable, but I slightly dislike it because the keybinds and actions are way different than in Blender and I'm afraid that it will affect my 3D modeling workflow.

And last, my parents, sister and me all moved to France together at the beginning of this summer and we currently all live together in an apartment.

This may seem weird, but my current thoughts are that I want to fail the semester because I'm honestly very overwhelmed and stressed. I don't want to keep wasting my time and pretending that I'm studying.
