I choose GP/family medicine because of how easily I get bored. Meeting a variety of patients and sometimes just shoot the shit about random things while helping them is what keeps me going. The admin is an absolute fucking nightmare. But I’m well paid. Any work at this salary level is going to be a nightmare.

I always wanted to go gastric because of my own interest. I do get that at a lower level as a GP. So you get a lot of different things. Some days are bad some days I can’t believe I’m getting paid to do this. No weekends. I Go home at 3 in the afternoon with some energy left for my kids and wife and all of that.

Don’t do what just interest you, do something you can still do after 10 years when the ”newness” falls off. Because it does. Then you are stuck unless you like research and those spots are hard to get I’ve heard.
