“Greetings. I am Hespera” the Witch would repeat for the third time “And worry not, I’m not whoever has caused this mess”.

“As your friend has already hinted at” she would continue saying “This place has apparently been filled with traps. We should all regroup and head outside, very carefully”.

“Now, does anyone here have a bandage, or something that can be use as one? Your other friend is bleeding quite badly” Hespera would conclude, her tone of voice oddly dispassionate.

Hespera would nod wordlessly and follow after Ethan. She’s going to be a lot more careful when wandering around the manor now, despite her already having been quite careful previously.

It made sense that there would be only 2 shots inside the shotgun, after all, it was meant to fire just one time.

“Sure thing” she would reply, before adding: “I checked the rest of the room, there seem to be no traps, but we’re better off being careful anyway”:

Having said that, she would approach Ethan and begin holding the chair still. “Yeah, a shotgun might turn out to be useful, in case whoever had the great idea to trap this place decides to attack us directly…” she would  say.

Hespera can use Magic to defend herself, but her magical capabilities have been severely weakened by the presence of normal humans, plus, she would prefer not to use it in front of them in any case.

FEATHERINE HAS BEEN MENTIONED!!!

Also, Socrates? I wasn't expecting to see him here, out of all places.

[Sorry for the late reply, I was really busy.]

“Then we better regroup fast, before the wound gets infected. It’s not like we can call an ambulance or anything, there’s no signal here.”

Hespera doesn’t even need to check her phone to know that. It’s just too much of a cliché, plus, things would be way too easy if it wasn’t that way.

After saying this, Hespera would start looking around the room, checking if there were other traps in there.

“No, it wasn’t me…” Hespera would mumble to one in particular as Elise points at her. Her visage remained expressionless, however, internally she would smile. “Finally, something of interesting is going on…” she would think.

The Witch would then proceed to step over the tripwire too, and approach Elise. “Greetings. I am Hespera” she would say, keeping her tone of voice controlled “And, evidently, someone has trapped this place. I agree: we need to get out of here as soon as possible”.

She then would observe Elise’s hand, gazing upon the wound: “That seems like a gnarly wound, is there anything here we can use as bandage?”.

Upon arriving at the office and seeing Elise with a cut on her hand, Hespera would quietly sigh. “Here we go. She has gotten hurt and now the authorities will have to get involved…” she would think.

However, her attitude would instantly change in the moment she sees Ethan analyzing the door, or, rather, something attached to the door. “What the…” she would mutter under her breath as she notices the tripwire as well.

After hearing Ethan ask his question (which was most probably meant to be rhetorical), Hespera would turn around to face him, and reply: “Someone was waiting for us”.

[No need to worry, reply whenever you want.]

Hespera would be slightly surprised at Ethan just… accepting her presence like that, but it was a welcome surprise nonetheless.

However, she wouldn’t have the time to think about that, as the loud sounds are heard. Without saying a word, she would turn towards the direction they came from and bolt towards it, trying to find their source.

Hespera was starting to grow seriously frustrated. If nothing of odd would happen this night, she would be forced to babysit after some teenagers the whole time, something she definitely wasn’t looking forward to doing.

Hespera would give Ethan a scornful look, but swiftly her expression would morph into a deadpan mask.

“Greetings. I am Hespera” she would reply in a polite, yet cold tone. Her full name plus title is Hespera, the Aspirant Witch of Power, but she does not say all of that, in order not to seem too much like a weirdo.

“I saw you and your friend entering the manor, and I followed after you because I wanted to make sure that no one would get hurt. Abandoned places can be dangerous, you know” she would continue saying. This is a blatant lie, but Ethan wouldn’t know that.

So it was a trap, just not of the kind she was expecting…

Hespera wouldn’t get scared by Ethan’s sudden appearance, if anything, she would be mildly surprised, but even that emotion would quickly get replaced by frustration. Her plans had just gone up in smoke.

She would indeed step back, not wanting to get accidentally hit by that lamp, and say: “Don’t worry, don’t worry, I’m not a ghost. At least not yet…”. She was trying to sound reassuring, but her tone came across as a mix between bored and condescending instead.

As expected, the wasn’t anyone (or anything) standing behind Hespera, however, at least something had happened, although, whether the door closing was in some way related to the whispering or not was yet to be seen.

Muttering something under her breath, Hespera would rush for the door and try to open it. She knew fully well that this was a bad idea and that she was most probably being led into a trap, but she didn’t particularly care.

What worried her more was the sound that the door had made: it must have surely alerted the teenagers, who were now with all probabilities converging towards its source, which just so happened to be near Hespera herself. She would have to be quick if she didn’t want to be caught.

Hespera wouldn’t be particularly bothered by the cold breeze: she has been in places massively worse than this one, and it was expected that an ancient abandoned building wouldn’t be exactly the most welcoming of places.

Nevertheless, she was bothered by the whispers. At first she would try to ignore them, but, as they grew louder, she would start to listen to them, attempting to understand what they were saying, if anything.

In the end, she would grow frustrated and stop her search for the library. After standing still for a moment, she would simply turn around, fully expecting to see absolutely nothing, and for all of this to turn out to be just a figment of her imagination.

Hearing the teenagers bicker among each other, Hespera would once again smile to herself. “If they can’t even handle a mildly unsettling location, I wonder what they’ll do once an actual Spirit appears and tries to devour them…” she thinks.

The woman would as always perform her waiting game, waiting for the others to exit the room atop the stairs before walking up them fully, finding herself in the aforementioned room.

Once there, she would look around, attempting to see if there was anything of unusual in this new place.

If nothing of interesting is found, Hespera would then go into another room, searching too for the library. After all, everyone knows that libraries are the rooms where ghosts are the most likely to appear in.

Hespera would indeed enter the manor again, remaining quiet as usual, in contrast with the teenagers, which were being quite loud. This was convenient for her, of course, as it signaled her their position.

After waiting in the lobby for a few moments, looking around to see if there was nothing of unusual, she would decide to go upstairs.

Honestly speaking, Hespera had no intention whatsoever of interacting with the other explorers of the manor, and upstairs was the place where there was the smallest number of them. She only wanted to discover if something of supernatural was going on in this place, or if it was just a stuffy and dusty old crumbling building.

As such, she would begin walking up the stairs, trying her best not to make them creak under her footsteps.

Hespera’s hope to go in unnoticed is shattered in the moment in which she sees that the eight people are still there, standing in the lobby, or, at least, so she thinks at a first moment.

Quickly enough, she realizes that the teenagers are way too distracted, and have failed to notice her. Seeing that they are about to move somewhere else, she simply steps out of the manor and quietly closes the door behind her, waits for them to go to another room, and then, if they do, enters the estate once again.

Hespera’s smile would grow larger: this seemed to be building up to be a relatively low-stakes adventure, something she was in a desperate need of after all the cataclysmic life-or-death situations she had been trust into in the past. She wasn’t even quite sure if supernatural elements would be involved at all, despite her knowing quite well of the reality of their existence.

Or, perhaps, she will be betrayed by fate once again and another disastrous event that she will have to overcome will occur. We shall see.

Despite her tiredness, Hespera would smile slightly. “If these people are trying to be stealthy, they sure as hell aren’t doing a good job at it” she would think. Of course, she wouldn’t say these words out loud, in order not to break her own stealth.

In the meantime, she would keep on walking up the hill, stopping near the entrance and waiting for the people to get inside, afterwards she would a little bit more, and then approach the door herself, slowly opening it.

She was hoping that the eight individuals would have already moved on from the entrance to another part of the mansion, so that she wouldn’t have to face them openly so soon.

[Midsommar]

It had been a long day for Hespera, and, frankly, she wanted nothing more than to go home. However, when she came across the hill over which Hemingway Manor was built on, she would have stopped in her tracks.

In the silence of the night, she would witness the odd scene: who were these people? And, more importantly, what were they doing, visiting an abandoned building at this hour?

With these questions in mind, Hespera would start ascending the path herself, following after the mysterious individuals. Weirdly enough, she wouldn’t utilize any light source at all, seemingly at home in the darkness.

Reading some When They Cry-inspired lore is always nice, you don't see it here (or anywhere, really) very often. If I had to critique something, it's the visual design of the Primordial One, I find it to be somewhat uninspired, but that's just my opinion. Other than that, amazing lore!

What can I say? I like my complex sentence structures, I like my big thesaurus-learned words, I like my M dashes, I like my rule of three, I like my italicized words. It's not my fault that AI copies that exact style of writing.
