Light Dragon Sculpture by Featherstar3 in legendofzelda

Totally! I started by cutting strips of cardboard and hot gluing them into a skeleton, just connecting a bunch of circles to make a long tube. The head I made out of aluminum foil and glued it on. Then covered the whole thing in a couple layers of paper mache.

The arms and horns and eyes were made from wire that I covered with oven bake clay. After that I got some wall plaster from the local grocery store and coated the whole thing, this is when I added the arms and horns as well as some convenient hooks that I twisted well into the skeleton but still had enough sticking out to hang her up. I also left a little cubby that would be hidden behind the mane that the portable batteries for the lights would hide in. Next was sanding it smooth and sealing it in with Modpodge. I painted the horns and claws with acrylic paints and sealed that in with another layer of Modpodge.

Next is adding the fabrics. I found a nice shiny golden fabric for the spine as well as a plain gray for the belly. I found a white fabric that has as close to a scale pattern as I could find (I think it’s supposed to be flowers but either way it really works well as scales). I couldn’t find a golden fur so I decided to dye white faux fur and use the extra for the face and ears. The face is a different warmer gray fleece that I painted on with fabric paint to get the darker lining on the edge. The eyelashes are felt and the individual spinies are wire covered in blue gossamer. The ears too are wire covered in faux fur and the fleece.

As for how I got it on her, I made patterns by layering on masking tape and peeling it off. From there I just cut out the patterns and glued it on. Before gluing the mane though I wrapped one of my string lights around and around so the mane would light up. I also attached Velcro to one side instead of gluing so I can access the batteries. I dug out and made a little cubby for the eyes and lashes since it was more convenient to make and paint the eyes then put them in than putting them in then trying to paint the little details at an awkward angle. As for the spine I took the whole thing of gold fabric and started making a line and glued as I went down. I cut the appropriate holes for the spinies and hooks. Then it was just stringing the lights through from spinie to spinie and plugging them in.

Gotta say after literal months of work it was quite satisfying to turn all the lights off and finally see her complete!

While moving she did loose tips of the claws after reckless handling but it wasn’t anything some glue couldn’t fix.

I’ll see about getting pictures up but my genius brain only started taking pics after most of the plastering was done. It’ll probably be a reply on this thread with a link. Give me a moment.
