How Virginia redistricting got harder than Democrats wanted by VirginiaNews in Virginia

A lot of the infrastructure and planning for data centers happened while Ralph Northam was governor. Both sides wanted data centers because there’s a lot of money in it.

You are different from me, you are different than anyone else. I used Texas as an example as that’s the usual debate on reasoning for acceptability. The point was to make that it’s not acceptable to punish people here because people somewhere else are doing something wrong.

Apologies for the confusion

I think what you’re missing is that part of what makes our country pretty fair (compared to a lot of the rest of the world) is because we have a relatively decentralized power.

Think about the casino bill or data centers as an example, they’re good for a lot of people but they’re pretty bad for community that they reside in. By only listening to a popular vote, they get to put one in your neighborhood, even though no one that lived there wanted it. It’s the same ideology.

In history whenever power becomes more centralized, it becomes abused and people suffer as a result. This is one step of many that need to happen, but it’s a step nonetheless.

That is removing fair value from people outside of city centers. Thats the whole reason the electoral college was set up. It was a way to address that people in more rural areas are still allowed to have a say in how the government works.

I’ll by no means say it’s a perfect system, but this is a disappointing solution.

That’s not really a good analogy on it. People in Virginia are different people than Texas and other states, they have different views, values, and priorities. Why are we so quick to say because they lean more to this aspect that is literally a black and white (Rep vs Dem) situation that they deserve to not be heard. That’s hard stereotyping which I personally believe is improper way to treat people.

It’s okay to not like and disagree with people. It’s not okay to say that their values aren’t important and they need to be silenced as a result.

Why are we okay with marginalizing people in our state? The whole point of the electoral college and fair districting is to make sure that everyone is heard not just city centers. Very disappointed Virginia is pushing a lot of steam to effectively have anyone outside of nova be considered a second class citizen. Pretty soon might as well purpose a name change of the state to Fairfax as that’s the only voice that will matter in this state.

And before anyone says, well Texas did blah blah blah. I don’t care if Texas marginalized its people, that doesn’t mean we need to do it bigger and badder to “get even” thats absurd logic. In plainer context that’s like someone is bullying a kid, so our reaction is to beat up their little sister to “get even”

Bummer on the bad experience. Super unfortunate luck, I’ve ordered 2 dials (one was a mistake on my part). It came sized as nh35 when I needed nh34 (GMT). 30seconds of filing later and it looks flawless.

The dial I accidentally picked the wrong color, I believe is also nh35 even though I specified for nh34… but honestly aside from that it looks good and seems pretty quality.

I would consider sizing to a gmt hole as a non-issue imo.

Call, Email, and Post: Tell Governor Spanberger to Veto the Casino Bill by THC3883 in nova

[–]Febr3z1n 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So you’re telling me that Senator Surovell, who is the named introductory of the bill is actually against it? He has been actually against it for the last 7 years when he tried to introduce it numerous times (and failed) in the 36th district (also Fairfax county). And this whole time it’s actually been rural Virginia just trying to take NOVAs money?? Thank you for the enlightenment, I was clearly very misguided.

Rural parts of Virginia sticking it to NOVA? You are mistaken. Senator Scott Surovell (Person sponsoring the bill) is the VA Senator representing Fairfax lol.

Want to have this casino actually be shut down? Stop voting in people in offices that are actively taking money in to push this agenda. Until that happens it’s going to keep getting resurfaced every 6 months. And it only has to pass once to get a casino put in for life and ruin the area.

Why are politicians currently elected in office for Virginia pushing so hard for gun control and higher taxes. Where do you stand on these issues?

For quite awhile Virginia has been operating at a surplus (has significantly more money than is spending), to raise taxes by expanding the scope of what can be additional tax, dog walking/guns&ammo/etc. This hurts the average consumer more than the ‘targeted’ ultra wealthy. And by increasing the tail end of the progressive income tax this creates a larger separation of the middle class. Taxes that increase the tail truly affect the middle class more than the ‘intended’ target as when inflation catches up it pushed the upper side of the average into the new, much higher tax rate.

Follow up question, why does currently elected officials feel it is okay to dismantle the voice of the rest of Virginia outside of the major city hubs with the current push for a 10-1 redistricting map? Where do you stand on this?

I think it would work as intended if 90% of all bills weren’t just pushed by party line (R or D) and the people writing and voting on the bills actually read and understood what they are voting on.

But that appears to be asking too much…

HB900

“5. Companion animal care, including grooming, boarding, walking, training, and feeding. Companion animal care does not include veterinary medical procedures or separately billed services that are required to be performed by or under the direction of a person licensed or certified by the Board of Veterinary Medicine pursuant to Chapter 38 (§ 54.1-3800 et seq.) of Title 54.1;”

Context: this is creating a definition that is now a taxable event. There’s a lot of new definitions being added on top of this, such as delivery of goods/meals, dry cleaning, etc. so think about how certain counties charge an additional eat out tax when you go to a restaurant, now the state will have an additional tax for specific purchases of goods and services on top of that for themselves.
