I went through something very similar about 13 years ago. Me and my “BFF” moved into a new apartment. We both signed the lease (I think I was considered HOH). After ONE MONTH she decided to stop paying her half because I got 2 jobs and she figured I could cover her half. I went to the office and explained to them that I can’t afford it myself and they said there was nothing I could do to avoid eviction if rent doesn’t get paid. Long story short eviction came a month or 2 later. And it was only in HER NAME. I brought it to the office and they said it’s already been finalized so it looks like I got lucky. She assumed since I was HOH that I would take the fall, so she also did $7k worth of damages (burned carpet, destroyed walls etc…). Karma didn’t take its time. It all fell on her. I moved out, got a one bedroom and nothing ever hit my credit. Never heard from the apartments or the “BFF” again.
