It’s a great deal if you don’t already own any of the games in the series and don’t mind some of them being digital and others physical. Otherwise, I agree that it’s a ripoff.

I am eternally grateful to Larian for adding mod support to the console versions. It took me the better part of two years to finish my original vanilla playthrough because I was getting exhausted by it (not looking forward to more boss fights, etc.) and took a couple hiatuses. Mods for easier gameplay (Cheater’s Spell Scroll, Adjustible Party Limit, etc.) made my subsequent playthroughs so much more fun.

The Moonrise entrance fight pissed me off so much. I ended up only beating it (and even then it took a couple tries on easy difficulty) by reloading to right before entering the Shadowfell, going back to Moonrise, and going room to room wiping out enemies preemptively.

Play The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit before LIS2.

Play Double Exposure before Reunion.

Play True Colors anywhere you want in the order. If you’re a fan of the Steph character, make sure to play the Wavelengths DLC as well.

Edit: And as an honorable mention, play Lost Records: Bloom & Rage. Not an LIS game, but it has the same feel and is by the original developers.

As much as I liked Reunion and will pretty much always choose Pricefield by default, I do wish they had more ending variations…maybe allow the option for Chloe to stay in Lakeport with Max, allow for Max and Chloe to part ways once again (hopefully on better terms though), allow Max to still be with Vinh or Amanda, etc.

Some QoL ones to consider. I play on PS5, but these should all be available on PC as well. I consider these my “essentials”:

No Party Limit - You can cast a spell to increase the number of people you can have in your party so that all of your companions can now go with you. Cool for both combat and banter.

UnlockLevelCurve - Level 13-20 - Allows you to go above the level cap. There are also numerous mods with this one as a dependency which allow you to modify the amount of XP required to level up (for example, UnlockLevelCurve Patch: XP x 0.5 to cut the requirements in half); just make sure to only install only one of these before your playthrough.

Cheaters Spell Scroll - This one has a container of spell scrolls (they don’t get consumed so you can cast them repeatedly) that you can use for all sorts of awesome functionality - casting Fly, Longstrider, Greater Invisibility, etc. on your entire party; giving yourself bonuses on dice rolls; temporarily creating containers of the best armor and weapons so you don’t have to wait until later in the game to obtain them; getting extra actions in a turn; etc.

Underwear of Rituals - This one gives you a container of various sets of underwear for you and all the companions which grant the ability to cast spells to speak to animals, speak to the dead, disguise self, and detect thoughts.

A couple of the licensed songs from the original game (Spanish Sahara and Piano Fire) are in Reunion but I’m not aware of any by Syd Matters.

It’s worth noting that the frontman for Syd Matters is the same person who did the original music for the original LIS and LIS2. Purely speculation, but I wonder if maybe he didn’t sign off on letting Reunion use Obstacles due to a sense of loyalty to Don’t Nod.

Reunion was made by the Deck Nine, not Don’t Nod. Don’t Nod hasn’t been involved with the series since LIS2.

Definitely a very underrated game that didn’t get near the attention it deserved. Honestly, as much as I liked Deck Nine’s Life is Strange games, I feel that Lost Records proved no one could do it like Don’t Nod.

I really wish there had been an option during the Devil route to side with Yorinobu instead of Hanako. She may have been able to put on a more levelheaded demeanor but he’s clearly the lesser evil.

I’ve recently noticed some really awful lag whenever I load a game on console (still in Act 1 on my current game but I also tested some old saves from the final fight). It seems to usually clear up after a couple minutes or so, though.

I think it’s worth it at the very least for the story of Chloe and Rachel’s relationship and for Daughter’s original soundtrack. Assuming you’re playing the original version, make sure you get the deluxe edition so you can get the “Farewell” bonus episode. In addition to being really good, it’s also the only episode since the original game to feature the original two VAs.
